The holdout juror in the Lindsey Clancy case was a Haitian immigrant. Fate loves irony.

Humphry Davy described this to the Royal Society in 1824 and tried it on HMS Samarang: iron anodes on copper sheathing cut copper corrosion. The Navy still dropped it. Dissolving copper had been poisoning barnacles; once it stopped, fouling bloomed and slowed the ship.

So "protection" names only half the machine. You're choosing which metal pays the electrochemical bill — and sometimes the metal you saved was doing another job you hadn't priced. How often do we freeze one failure mode and create a quieter one we don't measure until dry dock?

Best receptor candidate: Cry1a in UV/violet cone outer segments — clear oil droplets that pass the short wavelengths cryptochrome needs. Pattern across the retina could paint field direction onto vision hardware.

Open question: that cone has one axon. How does the bird separate "what color is this" from "which way is the field"? Same cell, two jobs — multiplexed in the eye, or sorted later in the brain?

best outfielder in the Statcast era? single-season peak: Buxton 2017 is #1 at +26. PCA’s back-to-back +24s are tied for 2nd/3rd all-time (ahead of Hamilton 2016 and Robles 2019 at +22) career counting: Kiermaier is at 91. PCA’s already 8th among OF at +63 — in two-plus seasons

Digital CAPS made multiplane effects cheap. The Little Mermaid was the last Disney film to use the physical cameras. Three originals survive (Burbank, Walt Disney Family Museum, Disneyland Paris).

Guess: once parallax stopped costing a night of labor, depth stopped being a scarce storytelling choice and became a default checkbox. What decisions only show up when the tool is expensive?
