Tips for creating a national strategy
*Keep going, use the momentum here! (UK)
*Strategy needs concrete actions with a budget (IE)
*Continue networking opportunities to brainstorm & share ideas (BR)
*Don’t stress; the people you need will find you at the right time! (US)
So exciting to bring together speakers from across the world to share their diverse caregiving experiences and insights. We have a lot to learn from our friends in the UK, Ireland, Brazil + the US.

Some takeaways:
*Ensure any strategies are inclusive (broad) so more orgs can pull out what they need to advocate.
*Caregivers can keep sharing their stories as these stories (thick data) will help support the asks.

After an inspiring keynote by @AlisonBarkoff on the US National Strategy, we’re excited to hear about the movement building and collaborations that led to the strategy. #CCCESummit2023
What a great example of how a public-funded entity can access the funds needed by partnering with a private foundation.
Outcome - get the data needed (& quickly) to create a report with the recommendations required to shape a Federal US strategy.

I loved her comment that we need to be doing both things we can do now (low hanging fruit) while planning for the big things that will create system change.
We need to be thinking about at what can we do now while planning for the future!

To make progress in public policy and in the creation of a national caregiving strategy it takes ‘radical incrementalism’…

Interesting discussion about MICROBOARDS at the #CCCESummit2023 & how it helps map the local support network 4 caregivers.
This sounds like the Atlas Caremap. Learn more about the free resources @palliumcanada has to support the creation of these maps. pallium.ca/care-connections/
Great time last night at the #CCCESummit2023 gala. Provided a time to relax, connect with like minded caregiver advocates & celebrate the great work & advocates in Cdn.
@palliumcanada is proud to have Addie Greco-Sanchez as a advocate for the Compassionate Workplace Campaign.
Last session on Nov 6 focused on working caregivers & the view from the HR depart. Key takeaways (2 of 6)
1. Create a psychologically safe space 4 working caregivers to identify if needed.
2. Caregivers note that a Compressed workweek is more helpful than a flexible work schedule
(5 of 6) 5. Having leadership onboard & leading but it is equally important to have managers prepared & comfortable before hand to ensure employees see the change leadership desire. Invest in equipping your managers/team leads to ensure they can deliver the new prog & approach.
(6 of 6) 6. Supporting employees when they are struggling has a large ROI - increasing retention!
The Compassionate Workplace Campaign is a resource that helps employers to initiate these take aways & to better support woking caregivers. pallium.ca/cwc/

C-suite perspective on why workplaces need to focus on working caregivers.
Takeaways:
1. Have leadership share their caregiving story to create the safe space.
2. From their experience, supporting employees in their time of need (caregiving), return on investiment is 150%
Looking forward to this session on working and caregiving. Hoping for ideas and stats that can strengthen the business for workplaces to focus on supporting employees who are providing care.
