Expert Advice: Stand still at the start of your presentation. Your audience members need a moment to become accustomed to the sound of your voice, your style of speaking, and sometimes your accent.

Fripp’s Tips: As an exercise, I would practice reading your speech out loud. Pause for one second at a comma, two seconds at the end of a sentence, and three seconds after a paragraph. This is to develop the habit of pausing in your talk in the right places. Then breathe & smile!
Fripp’s Tips: Examine each word in your speech, looking for the emotion. Every word is not equally important. The audience will get your message based on the inflection and emphasis you place on key words and phrases.

#RobertFripp explained that there are three types of heroes.
1. The superhero is able to direct the way the world runs.
2. The occasional hero can do something heroic but they can’t repeat it.
3. The everyday hero is reliably, repeatedly, and responsibly heroic on a daily basis.
Humor can add a lot to your speech, but it must fit you and your topic. If humor is appropriate to your topic, use it, but go for laughs that grow naturally out of your content. Avoid old, tired jokes that may not be appropriate or that everyone has heard before.

Fripp’s Tips: Never lose the powerful personal touch! Technology should serve you and your message, not the other way around. Use it as it was designed to be used -- to enhance your message, not to eclipse it.

I urge you not to stand behind the lectern throughout your entire talk. It puts a barrier between you and the audience, and they feel it.
