Blatant and predatory copaganda aimed at indoctrinating children and shoring up its PR image. Shame on WSD for promoting this drivel.

"Please be respectful," says the police force that has confiscated Palestinian flags at a vigil and threatened to call child services on an 11-year-old Tunisian Canadian girl for attending a rally, telling them they were "stupid" and to "put that 'shit flag away.'" #AbolishTheWPS

Over the last few weeks, I have received calls from families about a rise in Islamophobia in schools across #HamOnt.
First and foremost, to Muslim students in HWDSB schools, know that you deserve to be safe. You deserve a learning environment free from Islamophobia.

"The murder of Elias Whitehead is the direct result of a culture where nearly all social, economic, and health-related issues are met with arrest, criminalization, and punishment."
Please check out our members' response to the winnipeg police murder of Elias Whitehead on October 15. Shame on police Chief Danny Smyth for silencing witness perspectives and legitimizing police violence. Condolences to the Whitehead family. ❤️

MUST READ: This is a photo response by a youth when asked: "How are school staff responding to more overt forms of racism?". I too know this from listening to families, but also when a school division redacted my writing when I tried to show their 'dirt'. 🔥🧵

The WPS reported a clearance rate of 8.4% for property crimes in 2022.
The top two incidents - mischief and theft of $5,000 or under from a motor vehicle - had clearance rates of 4.8% and 0.4%.
Yet they keep getting rewarded for their failures. DEFUND.

Folx, bashing race for ignoring gender (& vice versa) ignores two basic truths: 1) Experiences are intersectional (& mediated by class), 2) Binary thinking ignores how white supremacy through police target both! Listen to voices from families across so called Canada:🧵

The research (and living) evidence is clear: involving police in school processes increases risks to all marginalized students. This is why school boards like @OCDSB demanded an end to school police officers. They also urged from the very start of their report (2021):

These experiences are quite common (but often under or not reported). Listen to students' "own words" from #Edmonton pubic schools describing how police can give students "the worst panic [if not physical] attacks":

In another 2021 report by @ugdsb they use gender/race interchangeably to recommend against the policing of students in schools.

So, if you see displays of 'diversity' or spaces getting race(or pink)-washed, keep moving (against policing). Make sure police have no free pass to enter and that there are accountability mechanisms to address harms. But since these are lacking, organize @PFSWpg @WpgPoliceHarm

If you are a parent who feels like the police may make you feel 'safer', that is not worth the potential/actual harm for others. Also, normalizing violence (feeling safe with police as opposed to others) corrupts and corrodes you. But, maybe you are & want to weaponize police.
