Vis-a-vis programming, won't ChatGPT just end up making it far easier to learn programming (so long as you're using open source languages and libraries)? Another win for "programming" in the "programming vs graphical substitutes" war. Helps with pandas, doesn't help w/Alteryx.

"When I grow up, I want to play with widgets on a no-code/low-code platform" said no little kid, ever. Proper programming is indeed the way of the future.
My 8 year old got tired of Scratch and Blockly and asked me to introduce her to a “proper” programming language. She’s now learning Python using the Amazon Future Engineer website that’s very pedagogical and gamified (like Codingame but a bit easier).

Python’s flexibility & versatility was a big reason @Instagram’s @carljm merged it into the Cinder Project 🔥 to create a data system few languages can match. Listen to the story on @AnacondaInc’s Numerically Speaking podcast, available everywhere! 👇🗣 bit.ly/3GsxK4K

Why do people use a phrase like "richest country in the world" to refer to the USA? There are 10 countries with higher GDP per capita (to include Norway and Ireland). If total GDP defines rich then India is richer than UK (it isn't). Use GDP per capita, and agree USA is not #1.

I want to have somebody ask me to upgrade/ troubleshoot some code I wrote when I'm 80. Elmore Leonard never stopped writing crime novels.
Am I the only one who thinks the trickiest gotcha in Python is the way loops and closures work together? It's a flaw in my brain, not in the language, but it still trips me up about once a year, and when it does, its a doozy.
I drive an electric car (plug in hybrid). I have no clue who the CEO is (or was) of the company that built this car. Because whomever he is, he isn't regularly making an ass out of himself on social media.

Everything I learned about Agile was from an Indian classmate who watched the movie "What About Bob?" and then would repeat "Baby steps, baby steps" while we worked on our class project together. Agile was invented later. I never did watch the movie. I learned the lesson anyway.

Watson Jeopardy is the reason IBM missed the deep learning wave for several years. It also sucked all investment and dried other promising R&D efforts. IBM somewhat corrected course of action during last 5 years, but lots of harm has been done. I saw it from the inside.
"When clinical trials were published, Watson came up short every time. It didn't matter what field it was in, it consistently scored less well than human clinicians, sometimes under 50%b and demonstrated some alarming blind spots in suggested treatments" theregister.com/2022/01/31/m…

Programming languages like Python are more readable than pseudocode, and have the additional advantage of being executable and debuggable. Pseudocode is obsolete.
Seek & Find: Will you spot the 3 errors hidden in this algorithm? Published paper, true story. Apart from that algorithm, I liked the paper :-)

Australia is a former penal colony that now penalizes people by denying them the privilege of visiting Australia. In other words, the rest of the world is your prison if you commit fraud attempting to enter Australia.
Am I the only who makes .pdf files with equations this way? 1) Jupyter notebook with no Python. Just markdown cells, using the ${ }$ to handle LaTeX equations. 2) Store the resulting .ipynb in GitHub since somebody might need to modify it. 3) Convert .ipynb to .pdf to distribute.

One of my long time clients (who isn't himself a programmer) just asked me to share a .py file I shared previously. Apparently, he finds my code readable to function as documentation. Not the guts of the thing, mind you, but the .py file that sets up the public interface.
