A 7 year old disabled boy named Teon had his electric wheelchair stolen and police closed the case after two hours.
Ableism is everywhere.
Public pressure from The Source got the case reopened.
Share far & wide and help Teon get a new chair!
UPDATE: The Met police has now reopened the investigation into the stolen wheelchair of disabled 7yo boy Teon. This comes after I uncovered that CCTV had not been formally requested before the case was closed within two hours of being opened. open.substack.com/pub/meliss…

One of our volunteers found this guy last night begging for help. She took him in. He clearly has something really wrong with his leg. Can we please get some support so we can get him the care he needs? 🙏
Crazy. Come on guys this is a new railway!
This Thursday will mark 500 days since the 1st test train through Winslow Station yet there’s still no sign of the station opening - some driver testing has even been paused. Chiltern Railways & the unions continue to bicker & the Government continues to fail to step in to resolve the deadlock. Meanwhile us taxpayers are paying £1m a year in security costs for an unused station. Chiltern, the unions & the Government are all to blame but none are in any hurry to resolve this. Some even say the station will open next year. Who knows if it will even be open in another 500 days time.

What an amazing little boy ❤️
Eleven-year-old Tony Hudgell, once a victim of unspeakable child cruelty, has emerged as a powerful advocate for change, successfully spearheading a campaign that will soon see the creation of a UK child cruelty register.
This new register, expected to be introduced as an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill in the coming weeks, will require parents and caregivers convicted of child neglect or abuse to face monitoring similar to that imposed on registered sex offenders.
The government’s announcement marks a watershed moment for child protection in Britain—a victory built on years of unyielding advocacy by Tony and his adoptive mother, Paula Hudgell, from West Malling in Kent.
The roots of this legislative breakthrough are as harrowing as they are inspirational.
Tony was only 41 days old when he suffered a brutal assault at the hands of his birth parents, Jody Simpson and Anthony Smith.
The attack left him with multiple fractures, dislocations, and blunt facial trauma, ultimately causing organ failure, toxic shock, and sepsis. He was left untreated and in agony for ten days.
The extent of his injuries meant that both of his legs had to be amputated.
In 2018, Simpson and Smith were sentenced to ten years in prison for their crimes—a moment that, while bringing some measure of justice, underscored the urgent need for systemic reform.
Since then, Tony and Paula have dedicated themselves to ensuring that no child endures what Tony did.
Their campaign, supported by lawmakers and the public alike, culminated in the government’s decision to establish the new child cruelty register. Paula, reflecting on this achievement, said, “This is a victory for Tony—and for every child who deserves to be safe, protected and heard. It shows that with persistence, courage, and a united team, real change is possible.”
She added, “After eight years of campaigning, I am incredibly proud that the child cruelty register is finally becoming a reality. This register is a vital step forward in protecting vulnerable children, ensuring that adults who harm or neglect children cannot simply move on unnoticed.”
The register itself is designed to monitor individuals convicted of child neglect, cruelty, abandonment, female genital mutilation (FGM), and infanticide—offenses the government has described as “egregious betrayals of a child’s trust and dependency.”
Those listed will be required to notify the police of any changes in residence, identity, or living arrangements involving children after serving their sentences.
They must also inform authorities if they travel abroad or attempt to live with children again, ensuring that their movements remain visible to law enforcement and safeguarding teams.
The Child Cruelty Register will ensure these offenders are visible to the police, allowing authorities to see and act when risks arise.
This new register builds on previous reforms inspired by Tony’s story. In the aftermath of the attack, Tony and Paula established the Tony Hudgell Foundation, which has raised over £1.7 million for charity during the pandemic.
Their advocacy also led to the introduction of Tony’s Law, which toughened sentencing for individuals who cause or allow serious harm to children.
Now, with the child cruelty register, the Hudgell family’s campaign is set to give authorities the visibility and tools needed to better protect at-risk children across the UK.
As the government prepares to table the amendment, the Hudgell family’s story stands as a poignant reminder of the difference determined individuals can make.
Their fight has not only changed laws but has shone a light on the need for vigilance and compassion in protecting the most vulnerable among us.
With the child cruelty register on the horizon, the UK takes a significant step toward ensuring that children like Tony are never forgotten or left unprotected again.

Changed trains at March yesterday. I see the 1885 Station Hotel is to be demolished. Not listed, not part of the rail network and not the greatest architecture but a piece of a town’s character is lost when we demolish buildings like this.

Today we gather at Selby Abbey to remember the rail crash at Great Heck, exactly 25 years ago.
10 people died in the tragedy and more than 80 were injured when a GNER train struck a Land Rover that had ended up on the track. The passenger train then hit an oncoming freight train.
