I was yesterday in Lira District for a regional engagement with leaders of Persons with Disabilities, together with security heads of Lira City and District and the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Ismael Ochengel. Upon arrival at the Lira District Council Hall, I found that the building had no wheelchair ramp. As a wheelchair user myself, I could not access the hall. I therefore refused to enter and directed that our meeting be held under the verandah. I did this not out of anger, but in protest against the continued exclusion of Persons with Disabilities from public spaces. This is a violation of Section 19 of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2020 and Section 30 of the Building Control Act, 2013, which clearly mandate that all public buildings must be accessible to all Ugandans, including Persons with Disabilities. Denying access is discrimination. It should be remembered that this is not the first time I am facing this challenge. Just last month, I faced the same humiliating barrier in Jinja City and Mbarara, where I failed to access government buildings and offices for lack of wheelchair ramps. I have ordered the CAO of Lira District to construct an accessible ramp immediately. He has apologized, calling it an oversight, and committed to act urgently. Furthermore, I wish to announce that I will very soon embark on a nationwide tour of all public facilities to ensure they meet accessibility standards. Let me be clear: Accounting Officers whose facilities will be found wanting will definitely face the consequences. Accessibility is not a favour, it is a right.

Yesterday I represented Rt Hon @ObothOboth at the 2nd National Annual Disability Run in Kampala. This run focused at raising resources to support construction of a entrepreneural skilling hub for PWDs. This will reduce vulnerabilities of PWDs & raise their contribution to GDP.

"The significant burden placed on caregivers and families of children with disabilities can not be re-emphasised. It calls for the need for predictable support to ensure that these children live with dignity and have opportunities to develop and participate in society." ~Robin Nandy, @UNICEFUganda Country Representative.

Happening now: At Golf Course hotel, in Kampala, orientation of Local governments leaders on the National Child Disability Assistance Programme (NCDAP) to be piloted in 25 districts. The pilot will generate lessons and evidence for national rollout of the intervention. @Mglsd_UG is coordinating the orientation in collaboration with @UNICEFUganda. #DisabilityInclusion

I am honored to be invited as Chief Guest for the MUBS Disability Awareness Day 2026 organized by the MUBS Disability Resource and Learning Centre under the theme “Promoting Disability Inclusion Through Sports and Games.” Sports and games are a powerful tool to break barriers, build confidence and foster unity. This day is about celebrating ability and reaffirming our collective commitment to an inclusive society where no one is left behind. I look forward to joining the students, staff and the entire MUBS community to Participate, Interact and Experience Inclusion TOGETHER. I thank the leadership of Makerere University Business School for this great initiative. #DisabilityInclusion #MUBSDisabilityDay2026 #InclusiveUganda

🔥 Did you know that Uganda has only 2(3) geriatricians ( doctors specialized in care for the older people)? 🔥 Meet our geriatricians - unfortunately none of them works in a government hospital so you may not access them for free! @Internist_02

Thank you Mzee
I officiated at the International Day of the Older Persons at State House Entebbe, where I urged the elderly to modernise and learn to preserve their wealth. Many older people start fragmenting their wealth to distribute it to their children instead of using modern inheritance methods such as shareholding. Our aim as government is to ensure that wealthy older people maintain their wealth, while those who have none are supported to obtain it through available government programmes. Therefore, we shall tailor a PDM programme for the elderly after concluding our financial engagements in the AFCON, which has taken a lot of money. Another issue facing older people is that they are most affected by medical conditions and expenses. It is, therefore, my view that the government should sponsor and recruit a geriatrician in each district to offer free and consistent medical support to the elderly.

Wise counsel from Mzee. Preserving wealth through modern methods like shareholding instead of fragmentation is a key to generational wealth. The idea of a geriatrician to every district & a tailored PDM for the elderly is visionary & shows true care of our elders. Thank you Sir
