I see most people are complaining about why we are calling 29th September Liberation Day in Tooro Kingdom. Here is why: during the 30 years of King Oyo’s reign, a certain gender and clan took advantage of his young age and, according to many concerns raised over the years, did a lot of fraud and manipulation in the Kingdom. Even King Oyo himself was in captivity , he was incommunicado and, for much of that period, could not exercise the full independence expected of the Omukama. Sadly, by the time he passed away, he had started taking independent decisions and asserting himself. Unfortunately, God took him from us. So, in our view, we have all been in captivity , including King Oyo himself. That is why 29th September represents a new beginning for Tooro: a new chapter, renewed hope and the restoration of the dignity and independence of the institution of the Omukama. I see some people from a certain camp making assumptions that Omusuuga Charles Kayondo Kamurasi being gifted a car means he is being paid for something. No. The people of Tooro contributed money and bought him a Land Cruiser to appreciate him for standing up and fighting for the interests of the Tooro Kingdom. Every kingdom deserves someone with the character of Omusuuga. Even when his biological children surfaced in the will, any parent would naturally be expected to consider the interests of their own children. But Omusuuga never abandoned the values and interests of Tooro. He stood firm. He showed the world that strong men who put duty before personal interests still exist in Tooro Kingdom.
