He asked an Iranian student where his family came from, heard “Iran,” and immediately made the point most politicians still dodge: Persians do not need DEI. We became one of the most successful immigrant groups in American history because of culture, work ethic, and a simple demand, just give us a chance. No racial ledger. No handouts. Opportunity was enough. Kirk recognized something real. Pre-1979 Iranian society was not some evil theocracy waiting to be “civilized.” It was a people with a long record of trade, education, individual excellence, and a cultural temperament far closer to the West than to the death cult that seized the country. That is why so many of us succeed the moment we land in a system that rewards competence instead of grievance. He was never a reckless regime-change supporter. He warned against the Iraq/Afghanistan model and preferred pressure over occupation. Fair enough. Methods can be argued, but not conclusions. The character of the Islamic Republic and the necessity of its downfall was obvious to him. This regime is the chief state sponsor of terror, the principal engine of destabilizing mass migration, and the ideological factory for political Islam that treats open societies as targets. Its collapse is not a side project. It is a civilizational imperative.
