Tim Allen spent over a year reading the Old Testament page by page, in four languages. A priest and a rabbi gave him one rule: don’t hunt for meaning, let it come to you.
The book that hit him hardest was Job.
Not because it answers “why do cruel people thrive while good people suffer?” Because it refuses to.
He compared it to a magician who wouldn’t reveal his newspaper trick: if I show you, you’ll call it stupid, and the magic dies.
That’s God’s answer to Job. You weren’t there when I set the stars moving. You couldn’t follow the explanation if I gave it.
But what stayed with Tim wasn’t the anger. It was the amazement. That this small, stubborn creature still looks up and asks “why?”
And then asks, “how can I help?”
Maybe that second question is the whole point.
Mike Evans says six years of losing left him wondering how much longer he could take it, until winning a Super Bowl with Tom Brady gave his career a second wind
“My first six seasons, I was a really great player, but I just didn’t know how much longer I could do the losing.”
“That takes a toll on you playing receiver in the NFL.”
“When Tom [Brady] came to the team and we won the Super Bowl, I think that gave me a second wind at my career...”

BUT he didn’t get Dan Quinn fired, he just didn’t save Dan Quinn’s job.

The training staff told the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers not to count on Mike Evans that week.
So the general manager called Evans with the good news that they would have him back for the next one.
Evans said no. I'm playing this week.
Here is the whole thing.
He hurt his ribs in the first half against the Arizona Cardinals and did not come back out.
Here is how George Kittle put it on the radio a few days later.
"Fractured ribs suck."
Kyle Shanahan would not say how bad it was. Asked what the injury was, he said, "Just rib."
Then he said this.
"I would be out without a doubt. But he's definitely a lot tougher than me."
That week Evans did not practice Wednesday or Thursday and was limited on Friday.
The general manager is John Lynch, and here is how Lynch told the story.
"Mike, good news, we'll have you for Seattle."
And here is what Evans said back.
"No, I'm playing this week."
He played. Five catches, 76 yards against the Denver Broncos, the most on the team.
Then Sunday at Seattle, with a protective vest on under his jersey, he caught seven passes for 113 yards.
He caught the two yard touchdown from Brock Purdy that put San Francisco ahead.
Then he caught the two point conversion that went with it.
The 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 32 to 29 and they are 5 and 0.
Here is Lynch on watching it.
"I think everybody in that stadium, if you were watching, could see he was in pain. But I also don't think we win that game without Mike Evans."
And this.
"His toughness meter is special."
Here is what Evans said about all of it.
"That's what I'm here for. Nothing's really promised in this game. And if you're available to play and go out there for your team and try to do your best to help get a win, I mean, that's what I'm going to do."
Now here is where that comes from.
He grew up in Galveston, Texas. He wrote his mother a letter once and put her name in it. Heather Kilgore.
Here is some of what he wrote to her.
"You had us so young. Just raising me, my sister, my brother and doing it the way you did."
"You did it on one job, but you made it work."
And then the line that explains the whole man.
"We were poor. But I didn't feel poor."
He is 33 years old. He spent 12 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and signed here in March.
He and his wife Ashli run a foundation that works with families getting out of violent homes.
And here is the honest part.
Last season was the worst of his career. A hamstring, then a concussion, then a broken collarbone. He played eight games and finished with 368 yards, and a run of eleven straight 1,000 yard seasons that had tied Jerry Rice came to an end.
He has 326 yards through five games now.
His mother worked one job and made it work.
Her son is 33 with hurt ribs and he will not sit down.
Professional poker player Phil Ivey won $9.6 million at the Borgata. The casino paid him, then sued to get it back. At London’s Crockfords, he won another £7.7 million. They refused to pay.
In the video below, Ivey says his job is to play the game, find a weakness in the casino and use it to win. He calls the casino his opponent and points out that it spends millions of dollars protecting its games.
He wanted a specific brand of cards, a Cantonese-speaking dealer and the same decks reused. The casinos agreed. His playing partner, Cheung Yin Sun, asked the dealer to rotate certain cards, presenting it as a matter of luck.
The cards had tiny differences along their backs. Once high-value cards faced one way and the others faced the opposite way, those differences helped identify what was coming next.
Ivey never marked the cards. The dealer handled them. But the casino didn’t understand what those requests were doing to the odds.
He called it an advantage. The casinos called it cheating. In 2017, the UK Supreme Court ruled against him: persuading the dealer to arrange the cards crossed the line.
The casino had approved his requests while expecting to win. Ivey knew something about its own cards that it didn’t.
Was he cheating, or should a casino know its own game before accepting someone’s money?

Pat Surtain II says his ‘Welcome To The NFL moment’ was getting burned by Davante Adams: “I thought I seen a Ghost” 😳
Surtain was 100% convinced he read the play, only for Adams to hit him with a route jump in overtime that left him completely lost as Adams walked into the end zone. Pat tells his Alabama RollTide former teammates, DeVonta Smith & Terrion Arnold.
"My welcome-to-the-NFL moment? Shit, I got mad routed up. It was against Davante Adams my second year. Brother, when I say I thought I seen a ghost. Bro... I was covering."
"When I say I was so confident driving that b*tch! I’m talking about 100% confident. Nigga squared me up—pow, pow! Man, I turned this way, but he went this way."
"I seen the ball in the air, I was like, 'No, they ain't gonna score. They ain't gonna get me like this, bro.' Man, I’m talking about he in the end zone, open. I’m looking back like, 'Bro, ain't no way they just did that to me.'"
"I put my head down, went straight to the locker room. Don’t talk to me, don’t ask about it, don’t tell me what happened. I went to the sideline, CB came up to me like, 'Hey bro... next game, big dog.'" 😭💀
These are the humbled moments that force an elite player to lock back in and elevate their game. 4 years later, Pat Surtain is the #1 cornerback in the league. 🔥

Fred Warner on Mike Evans:
"He's just a walking aura ... I'm on the sideline watching him do crazy stuff, I'm like, "We have Mike Evans." Like I can't believe it."
"He's unreal. He literally doesn't say anything. He just shows up every week and just works and then goes out there on Sunday and just dominates you."
