Users Report Deposit Restrictions at OKX, Binance and Other Exchanges Following FinCEN Action Against MEXC
Following the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issuance of a special measure order targeting MEXC Global, some community users reported that funds withdrawn from MEXC to centralized exchanges, including OKX, Binance, and Gate, were subjected to compliance reviews, held pending deposit crediting, or placed under refund review by the receiving platforms. Separately, Bitget Wallet confirmed that its card top-up service currently does not accept funds identified as originating from MEXC. FinCEN’s order has not yet taken effect. The exchange-related reports are primarily based on individual user accounts rather than official platform-wide restriction announcements. The scope of any restrictions and the eventual disposition of affected funds remain unclear.

Dear @ethereum - please don't break the chain.
It does look like Glamsterdam in the current form would lead to another emergency hard fork back, with a lot of drama.
I am sure, it can be made without breaking immutable contracts which hold funds
Replying to @ryanberckmans
i don't care how much research went into it, Glamsterdam in its current form is _not_ CROPS and also idgaf if anyone thinks i'm too late here, until it's activated on mainnet it's not too late. core devs have not done proper analysis over the last 1.5 years and i'm not gonna push for a fork that breaks invariants that were unknown until ~2 weeks ago. this is all a sunk cost fallacy here.

US Treasury Moves to Cut MEXC Global Off From US Financial System Over $16B in Illicit Transactions
The US Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has issued an order prohibiting US financial institutions from processing funds transfers to or from crypto exchange MEXC Global. FinCEN said MEXC facilitated at least $16 billion in transactions linked to sanctions evasion, cybercrime, and other illicit activities between May 2021 and May 2026, including nearly $1.5 billion tied to Russian sanctions evasion and approximately $1 billion in direct transactions with Iranian crypto exchanges. FinCEN cited severe deficiencies in MEXC's anti-money laundering controls. The order will take effect 30 days after publication in the Federal Register.

“Crypto: Pass legislation to stop Trump's crypto corruption, establish tough but fair rules of the road for legitimate crypto ventures, and create safeguards to protect consumers, small businesses, community banks and the financial system” — @RepMaxineWaters
A glimpse of what’s ahead for crypto legislation next Congress. Expect the industry’s definition of “fair” to differ.
On our Spaces earlier, Democrats @JBSDC and @jenbrowndc saw an olive branch in Waters’ remarks. Even as Dems push hard to crack down on Trump’s crypto conflicts of interest, they see room for work with the industry on a bill that provides a regulatory framework for legitimate actors.

The two main measures of 'economic wellbeing' in the US no longer really capture economic wellbeing....
These were always:
a) gas prices, and
b) the unemployment rate
However, gas prices have gone down relative to everything over the last 10-15 years...
We've just gotten way better at extracting fossil fuels from the ground and harnessing them in various ways, so overall gas prices aren't much higher than they were 20 years ago...
And what has really gone up is HEALTH INSURANCE...
The average American family is paying $28,000 per year for health insurance(!!!)...
Which dwarfs the cost of gas for them...
In addition, while they may have a low mortgage rate locked-in, if they want to move somewhere new, the price of any other house bought with a mortgage will be astronomical relative to 5-10+ years ago...
And then regarding (b) - the unemployment rate...
We now live in gerontocracy absolutely filled to the brim with old people, so there is always going to be a perpetual labor shortage, but only for low-paying jobs like CNA's and other roles expressly focused on caring for said old people...
But the people who are making solid middle-class wages are all on the cusp of being fired due to AI...
So the entire economic backbone of the country from a demographic perspective are filled with existential angst re: AI and the future of their incomes...
And among the small business owners and self-employed in the US, a disproportionate share exist within the real estate and construction industries, which have been absolutely decimated by high interest rates...
Therefore, while the above two measures would suggest things are relatively fine, economically... the fact is that the situation is actually quite bleak when looked at from any other perspective...

On THORChain, decisions are made directly on the blockchain. For an important change to be accepted, ⅔ of its nodes have to vote for it.
Right now, 111 nodes are active. They all bond at least 300,000 RUNE, put up as collateral to secure the network. Each node has one vote, no matter how much it has bonded.
All nodes run software called THORNode. Anyone, from devs to community members, can suggest changes to this software. These ideas are discussed in Discord (open to anyone to join) and fine-tuned until they become code.
The changes are then submitted to the nodes, who decide whether THORNode moves to the next version, or not. It takes the approval of ⅔ of the nodes.
Nodes also vote on network parameters through a system called Mimir. For economic changes such as fees, it takes ⅔ of the nodes. For operational changes such as security, only 3 votes are required. 4 nodes can vote to rescind an operational mimir, then 5 node votes can counter the 4, and so on.
Some actions don't need a vote at all. For example, two nodes are ejected from the network every churn period (roughly 3 days), the oldest node in the network and the node with the most slash points. Swapping is automatically halted if the network detects an insolvency.

the original Solana thesis of having everything happen on a single blockchain still makes a lot of sense to me
looking back at the past five years, every major cycle has pushed the ecosystem forward in different ways
DeFi exposed the need for faster and cheaper transactions, NFTs brought new users and applications, and memecoins tested how the network handles massive amounts of trading activity
a lot of these trends were driven by speculation, but they also helped prove what the infrastructure could support
i think we're getting closer to the vision that originally made Solana interesting back in 2020
