Jay-Z explains the craft of writing at its highest level, where the rhythm sets the foundation and the lyrics fall into place after. “The flow comes first… then I fill it with words.” From pulling inspiration from Rakim’s delivery to studying The Notorious B.I.G.’s flow, it’s a lesson in making every bar count.

biggie remains the most cinematic storyteller in rap. no1 else really hit those highs again. he called himself the rap alfred hitchcock for a reason; Biggie's music was nihilistic but full of heart and wit and technical genius. ready to die=rear window life after death=psycho

If we’re really doing this, it’s economics. There’s a huge difference between an era when an editor could make $90k a year for calling the Pussycat Dolls idiots, but it hits different in a world where a 25yo kid has to risk a DDOS attack from a stan army for the promise of $75.

Here's my eulogy to Hulk Hogan. I apologize in advance to all the wrestlers who follow me. Hogan is a textbook example of American mediocrity. Despite being a racist, sycophantic, backstabbing grifter, almost every match he's ever had was a flat one-star snoozefest. He was so wack between the ropes that his finisher was a leg drop. A fucking leg drop. Hogan was positively identified for ratting out the locker room to the bosses when wrestlers tried to unionize. He engaged in aggressive backstage politics to suppress talent and protect his position. Hogan refused to put wrestlers over even though they out-worked and out-performed him every night. He never wanted to make anyone else look good and he always wanted a lion's share of the pay. He had one of the most inflated and most undeserved egos in entertainment, and all his movies sucked. Hogan relied on the same schtick for decades and failed to adapt to a changing audience before becoming a MAGA influencer in his final days. RIP Iron Sheik

I wrote about the genius of Bernard Herrmann for BBC Culture, focusing on his score for 1960's Psycho, which bailed out Hitchcock. I'm proud this writing shows how the dread of the era crept into Herrmann's sound and details his influence on rap. Read: bbc.com/culture/article/2025…

Future's DS2 was the era-defining masterpiece amidst a classic mixtape run. On its 10th anniversary, @SonRaw wrote a definitive retrospective about this haunted Colossus of excess and pain, drug abuse and absurd luxury, sonic experimentation and triumph. passionweiss.com/2025/07/23/…

The rise of idiot-interviewers like Fridman, Rogan, Von, and the Nelk Boys is very harmful to journalism. They somehow manage to be worse than mainstream media. They are walking PSAs for the importance of reading books.
The NELK Boys — a Canadian frat-bro YouTube crew turned Trump-adjacent merch empire — just sat down with Israeli PM Netanyahu. Their intro —> “I see so much about what’s going on Israel and Iran and Palestine. And to be honest, I just really don’t know what’s going on there. So it’s going to be interesting to sit down with prime minister Netanyahu and get educated.” “We’re journalists right!?” Binyamin Netanyahu is wanted by the International Criminal Court for various war crimes and crimes against humanity, including extermination, murder, and using starvation as a weapon in Gaza.

Unsurprising silence from Imperial White feminists who chanted “Woman, Life, Freedom” just three years ago. If anyone still believes Western feminists cares for women even minimally unlike themselves, call me. I have a few bridges to sell!

For 20 months, I’ve seen Israel carry out the worst horrors and heard people defend it with FAFO. Brazen genocidal language coupled with actual genocidal atrocities and the total destruction of Gaza. The gaslighting from official Israeli accounts over the last 48 hours is mind blowing. It’s like they live on a different planet or think that the rest of us do. While continuing its genocide against Palestinians, Israel launched an unprovoked attack on Iran to sabotage talks with the U.S., killed civilians, destroyed residential buildings and assassinated scientists, all in violation of international law. Seeing their ridiculous attempt to turn all of this around into “self-defense” (they also call genocide self-defense) really makes you feel like you’re going crazy. But, of course, that’s the point of gaslighting.

I love that there’s this sacred October 7 footage that you have to be invited to watch on an IDF base meanwhile some days you’ll see multiple dead children before lunch time.
You see the October 7th film on an IDF base. The IDF soldiers that sit with you consider it a solemn duty. It clearly affected ours seeing this same horror over and over as part of her job. Greta would not have watched it with an ounce of respect for the horror or the sacrifice. Thankful this garbage human said no so someone serving their country didn’t have to witness the entitlement.
