72. Remember Me, the sickness You bore Jesus, I am at Your table to remember You and to announce Your death. The body I announce was beaten until it looked stricken, as with leprosy, and that body was Yours. Thirty-nine stripes. I want to pause and think about how much pain that caused You, because You did that for me. You took on my sickness, so that You experienced my sickness for me, in my place. And the result is that the sickness died on You. Truly, by Your wounds I have been healed. You remembered me in Your suffering. The least I can do is remember You. You did this for me with a goal intended to heal me today. So I remember the pain You went through, and honor You by receiving the healing it gave. Father, if I have seen the Son, I have seen You. You healed them all, and the question on the way in was, Do you want to be healed, and not, only if it is God’s Will. Healing is not a paycheck I earn with a cleaner week. The priest examined the lamb, not the man who brought it. You examine Jesus, and You count me in Him. Healing is Your glory; and I seek to glorify You. Sickness is Satan's glory. You deny sending the attacks and hurt. If anyone attacks me, it is not Your doing. And these weapons formed against me must surrender to me, who has become Your righteousness. I agree with Your denial in sending me harm. I will not attribute to You what You refused to attribute to Yourself. Hedging is doubt in a tuxedo. I leave all doubt at the door. Asking You to heal me, as if the stripes were still ahead, is asking You to whip Your Son again. That is not faith, that is unbelief. That is like Adam standing in Eden, begging for food, when he was surrounded by fruit. I will not do that with this bread in my hand. I open my mouth and agree that You are correct. The health is already mine. I put my Amen on the stripes that already happened. Sickness, you are late. Your time has gone. You must leave. You have no choice. You had your day on His body, and that day is over. Get out of this flesh in the name of Jesus. Satan, pack up your evil priesthood and leave, because Jesus is my High Priest. My only Contract is with Him. I eat this bread and drink this cup with joy. Thank You Jesus, I remember You. I remember the pain you endured. And I honor Your suffering, by receiving the healing and health it produced. Today is Reformation Day. R.C. Sproul is right in that video. The church has become pervasively liberal in its tendencies away from Scripture because there is no basal commitment to the sovereignty of God. We need a reformation that takes God's absolute sovereignty and predestination as the starting point for everything else, not a slogan we abandon when it gets practical. Liberalism, technically, is liberation from Scripture. The church has liberated itself from the text, and the fruit is obvious. But if we are going to talk about liberation from Scripture, then any form of cessationism is the strongest form of liberalism you can get. There are degrees of cessationism, but all of them deny the biblical doctrine of Expansionism. They deny the baptism of the Spirit for spiritual power, which includes the gifts as portrayed in 1 Corinthians 12-14. They deny Scripture’s command to seek all of these gifts. That is not defending Scripture. That is contradicting it. Jesus’ substitutionary atonement included healing (Isaiah 53:4-5, James 5:15). Healing always happens by the will of man through faith. By denying this, cessationism denies the substitutionary atonement of Jesus and its effectiveness, and by logical implication it denies the forgiveness of sins. That is liberation from the gospel itself. Even the Reformed who get a few top-level statements about God’s sovereignty correct conclude the opposite from Scripture. They have no idea how to apply the doctrine. They have no idea what is in their hands. The Arminian charismatics sweep predestination under the rug and skip to the application. Both are wrong, but the Reformed are more so, because at least with the charismatics you still have a small chance to get healed and find a miracle. Absolute sovereignty and predestination over men’s choices means more preaching, more healing, more miracles, and more outpourings of the Holy Spirit. Deviations from this are to be mocked and dismissed. The Reformation had some good statements, but their doctrines of the formation of Scripture and its sufficiency are childish and bad. Cessationism shows they did not understand what the authority or sufficiency of Scripture truly is. As Vincent Cheung says, “The cessationist makes at least three attacks against Scripture in this one argument that supposedly defends Scripture. First, contrary to the Bible’s own claim, he declares that the Bible was never sufficient until completion. Second, because the Bible indeed declares itself sufficient before completion, but the cessationist claims that anything that is beyond sufficient is unnecessary, and not in the same class as biblical prophecy, he declares that all portions of Scripture produced after what Timothy had in his infancy are unnecessary and uninspired. Third, because he claims that prophecy that repeats the information contained in Scripture as in a different or lower class than the prophecy of Scripture, or even not prophecy at all, he declares that all portions of Scripture that repeat the words or ideas that were already contained in previous portions of Scripture are unnecessary and uninspired. Amen. Poverty is not a virtue because Jesus already took our place in it. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 8:9 that though He was rich, for our sakes He became poor, so that by His poverty we might become rich. His true monetary poverty came at the cross when He was penniless and naked, taking our lack upon Himself so that His riches become ours. This is the same substitution we see in 2 Corinthians 5:21, where He became sin so we become the righteousness of God, and in Isaiah 53:4-5, where He bore our sicknesses so we are healed. Our poverty became His, and His riches become ours. Paul wrote this for the church today, not merely in heaven.
