Remembering Revolutionary Assata Shakur on her birthday today.
In 1979, she escaped from U.S prison later received asylum in Cuba.
“I saw this as a necessary step, not only because I was innocent..but because I knew that in the racist legal system, I would receive no justice”

Rest in power to our elder Denise Oliver-Velez. Although the Young Lords has been framed as a Puerto Rican organization, 25 percent of its membership was African American and many of its members, especially the NYC branch were Afro Latino. @DeniseVele49788

tapestry. Some of (not all) of my favorite indigenous African art traditions & styles (these are native cultural depictions of African women*).
Personally, this is one of the reasons, I'm not a huge fan of the "African Renaissance Monument" Updated visually from 2022

#revised If I didn't say this before, I'm saying it now. This design was a struggle! Because I was attempting to do a clothing-design, that was outside of what I normally do. When I have time I'll upload versions of this design that fit my natural style. It was still fun to do.

The Akom trinity is: Onyame (mother), Onyankopan (her son), & Odomankoma (typically no sex/gender), the monotheistic god of many Akan ethnic groups. "nyame" is a name used for both Onyame & Onyankopan. Onyankopan is the husband of Asase-Yaa/Afua. Just to clarify. WIPs

"...Asase Yaa, the Goddess of the physical world." Besides implying that motherhood is purely physical. This is inaccurate to Akan religion. Asase-Yaa is the guardian of the gateway to “Asamando”, & a judge of human-spirits, as so they might enter. Asamando is the Afterlife.
