🚨 What is AUM or OM (ॐ, Oṃ)?
Sound ‘A’ (अ) originated from the north face of Bhagavan Shiv (शिव Śiva), ‘U’ उ from the west, ‘M’ म from the south, Vindu (विन्दु) from the east, and Naad (नाद Nāda) from the face in the center.
Vindu is the crescent moon; Nāda is the tip of the flame, Dipshikha (दीपशिखा Dīpaśikhā).
These five sacred elements coalesced in perfect harmony, constituting the primordial resonance of ॐ Oṃ.
Oṃ signifies both Shiv and Shakti (शक्ति Śakti).
The mantra Oṃ Namaḥ Śivāya (ॐ नमः शिवाय, Om Namah Shivay) emerged from Oṃ, representing the absolute union of Shiva and Shakti.
The primordial Oṃ represents formless Shiva (Niṣkala, निष्कल), whereas the mantra Om Namah Shivay denotes the physical, manifested form (Sakala, सकल) depicted as divine idols.
From the cosmic resonance of Oṃ, the sacred Gāyatrī (गायत्री) was born.
From Gāyatrī came all the Vedas.
From the Vedas came all mantras (मन्त्र).
Thus, the entire body of Vedas and scriptural wisdom of Shastra (Śāstra शास्त्र) traces its ultimate source back to Om Namah Shivay.
From His formless state, Shiva first appeared as an infinite column of light, the Jyotirlinga ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग Jyotirliṅga.
Shivling (शिवलिङ्ग Śivaliṅga) represents cosmic Jyotirliṅga.
The Jyotirliṅga manifested on the auspicious day of Shivratri (शिवरात्रि, Śivarātri).
The Jyotirliṅga appeared as a crimson mountain of fire; therefore, that place is named Arunachal अरुणाचल Aruṇācala.
Oṃ, known as Praṇava (प्रणव), serves as the cosmic boat (Nava नव or Nāva नाव) that carries souls safely across the ocean of worldly nature (प्र Prakṛti) into eternity.
