Phosphate deficiency isn’t always subtle! Purpling around the leaf margin is a classic sign that the crop is struggling to access enough P. P plays a key role in early root development so deficiency at establishment can restrict growth long before yield losses become obvious.
Thank you @stourgarden for the opportunity to visit your trials seeing the infield annual bulb onion varieties and talk about crop nutrition. It was a pleasant way to spend an early evening.
Phosphate is a vital nutrient for the establishment of any crop, but it’s also a popular way of trimming fertiliser spend. Nothing can replace the activity of phosphate, and we don’t always give it the credit it deserves, particularly during crop establishment.
Phosphate can contribute up to 6% of the plant’s nutritional makeup and a shortage of phosphate, especially in the early stages of a crop’s life, can lead to delayed growth and poor rooting. Talk to us about protecting your phosphate with OEP

At Groundswell tomorrow? Join Origin's Tom Edwards on the @LEAF_Farming stand with NUE-Leg project farmers, researchers and partners for an informal panel discussion and open conversation on how livestock farmers are responding to growing pressures around nitrogen use #nueleg
Don’t risk phosphate lock up🔒
Growers should be testing soils and aiming to maintain indices for phosphate at level 2. If this slips below, the time to build these back and repair the damage will be considerably longer than a year or two break in application.
At @FramFarmers Mowness Halls trials day? Drop by our stand to chat with our FACTS qualified advisers Ali and Toby to discuss how to get the most value from your fertiliser investment
Thank you @grain_co, we were delighted to join you to discuss our enhanced efficiency fertiliser product range with visitors.

Using a silage additive this year? You could be reducing the effectiveness of the additive if sodium is low. Additives cost ~£1/t of silage, whereas adding sodium to a silage fertiliser is comparatively 28p/t for the sodium.

What’s the difference between a basic and broad-spectrum soil sample? Basic · Only covers the main macro nutrients. Broad spectrum · Full nutrient spectrum. The physical process of collecting the samples is no different, but the difference in the detail is vast.
Today we are at the Suffolk School Farm and Country Fair, putting into context for year 3 and 4 children the role fertiliser plays in growing the volume of nutritious food needed to feed nations. Thank you Suffolk Agricultural Association
We talk about soil sampling a lot as it’s a vital process to achieve the right crop nutrition, but how does it work? Read our Nutrition Agronomist Toby Ward's blog to help you get the most from it or see the key points from our timelapse video...

This week we're taking a look at PHOSPHATE. It is so important at drilling because:
· It promotes early root development and spring growth
· Helps promote shoot formation
But not all phosphate products are the same -
