Happy Birthday #OMDP4NM! 5 years ago, OMDP became New Mexico's newest national monument. In the years since, this beautiful landscape has brought pride to the local community and helped fuel our thriving outdoor recreation economy in southern New Mexico. #MonumentsForAll

After celebrating the 5th anniversary of the beautiful Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument last night, I had to get out there myself this morning! Thanks to the tireless work of so many, this land will be preserved for future generations to enjoy and admire.

The Aden Lava Flow Wilderness in @OrganMountains is rich with basalt flows, lava tubes, and volcanic craters. These unique geological features were created by lava that flowed from the Aden Crater shield volcano more than 10,000 years ago. 📷 Wayne Suggs #WildernessWednesday

Mount Riley Wilderness Area in @OrganMountains-Desert Peaks National Monument contains the highest volcanic cinder cone peaks in the rugged Potrillo Mountains. The views from the top of the 1,500 foot-tall summits are well worth the climb! #WildernessWednesday – at Albuquerque, NM

“...this is a real important step to getting this place back to what it used to look like...One great example is the pronghorn antelope. They used to be plentiful in this area now sightings are extremely rare” - @FriendsOMDP buff.ly/2HsLnDL #WildernessNOW #OMDP4NM

I'm at #OMDP4NM with fellow champions of the outdoors celebrating the new landmark public lands package: facebook.com/nmwilderness/vi…
No better way to celebrate the public lands package— and hard work that went into protecting #OMDP— than right in front of these mountains, w/many of the folks who were part of this victory. It wasn't easy, but anyone who looks at this landscape can see it was more than worth it.
