NOA, OrderPaper Meet, Commit to Improving Civic Awareness and Promoting National Identity The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has re-stated its commitment to enhancing civic awareness and promoting national identity. Director General NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, made this commitment when he welcomed OrderPaper Nigeria’s leadership to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja, praising the visiting organisation for a decade of working to enhance citizen understanding of, and engagement with the National Assembly. Mallam Issa-Onilu highlighted NOA’s dual mandate: informing citizens about government policies and promoting unity, patriotism, and national values. He showcased new innovations of the NOA, including the AI-powered CLHEEAN, Superhero for Children, Captain Excellence, Civic Education for Nigeria School Curriculum and the Hackathon online quiz for youths. He noted that public misconceptions about government policies and actions are widespread and described OrderPaper as a valuable partner in improving civic understanding of government activities. OrderPaper CEO Mr. Oke Epia solicited collaboration with the NOA, stressing the need to highlight the work of the National Assembly and enhance citizen participation in legislative processes. OrderPaper Nigeria is an independent parliamentary monitoring organisation and policy think tank. @FMINONigeria @OrderPaper

Last week, @BudgITng and @OrderPaper signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures Nigeria to promote the separation of powers advocacy, consolidate shared values around deepening democracy, build capacity for State Houses of Assembly, and ensure they are fully empowered to carry out their constitutional responsibilities. This is a key step towards strengthening legislative independence and improving governance across Nigeria’s states, ensuring that State Assemblies can provide effective oversight, make people-centred laws, and hold the executive accountable. #GetInvolved

Before taking the oath as Edo State's chief executive, Governor Monday Okpebholo @m_akpakomiza served as a Senator, representing his constituents in the red chamber. Now, as governor, Okpebholo joins a select group of Nigerian leaders who have successfully made the transition from federal lawmaker to state executive. This trend has become increasingly common since Nigeria's return to democracy in 1999. This background makes him one of the "ICONS of the Fourth Republic" - a term coined by OrderPaper Nigeria to describe governors whose legislative experience gives them unique insights into governance. After 26 years of democratic rule in Nigeria since 1999, a notable trend in Nigerian politics is the movement of lawmakers to the executive arm of government as governors. One clear example of this trend is His Excellency Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the current Governor of Ebonyi State. Before becoming governor, he served as a lawmaker in the Ebonyi state of Assembly. Governor Nwifuru represents what we call the "ICONS of the Fourth Republic" - leaders who have worked in both the legislative branch (making laws) and the executive branch (running government). The Governor of Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke journey from the Senate floor to the governor's office reflects a broader pattern in Nigerian politics. This trend in Nigerian politics where former lawmakers are taking charge of state governments has been recurring in Nigeria's return to democracy since 1999. This combination of executive and legislative experience makes him one of the "ICONS of the Fourth Republic" - leaders who have successfully transitioned from making laws to implementing them. Nigeria's democracy has been in operation for over 26 years since 1999. During this time, something interesting has happened. Many public officials who used to make laws in the parliament have become state governors. This pattern of politicians moving from the legislative branch (where laws are made) to the executive branch (where laws are carried out) is now getting attention. This phenomenon, largely overlooked and under-documented, has now taken centre stage with the launch of the ICONS of the Fourth Republic initiative by @OrderPaper. Who are these ICONS? These are political leaders who have experience in both making laws and running government. They started as lawmakers and later became governors, giving them unique experience in how government works. For more details, check the link below: parliamentreports.com/icons-…
