apple shipping a worse version of @orbstack is nice validation :) we have way lower memory usage and better integrations honored to have coined the term 'machines' (not VMs) for this type of primitive

One of my personal favorite features announced at WWDC will I suspect be a sleeper hit: container machines, allowing your Mac to run a lightweight, persistent Linux environment with your home directory and repos automatically mounted: github.com/apple/container/b…

Yeah! @OrbStack 2.0 embedded Ghostty as their built-in terminal (via libghostty). If you use OrbStack, you're now also using Ghostty. So cool to see this. I think we'll only see more of this when libghostty stabilizes and gets packaged properly.

orbstack doesn't have this problem :) (firewall checks incoming interface to block connections to internal tcp proxy)

I have been using @OrbStack for more than a month now, and it is a perfect replacement for the Docker Desktop. It's extremely lightweight and can create VMs along with containers.

If you're using Docker on a Mac, you've got to try @OrbStack. Completely changed how I use containers locally. - Run multiple containers with no noticeable impact on battery life. - Hostnames for everything, no more localhost port collisions. - Jump into a nice debug shell for running containers--even remote ones (as of today). They ship super quickly, and it's way cheaper than it needs to be.
