I'm building Trustflow JSC, a Web3 consulting company, and I spend a lot of my time on AI x crypto. > When did you join Web3 / crypto? Ans: Late 2017, early 2018 and I joined with heavy losses. My very first investment was ETH, bought at around $1,000. I never sold it, but I lost the private key after switching laptops, and that fund is gone forever. An expensive first lesson in self-custody. > When and how did you join NEAR? Ans: It was 2020. I first heard about NEAR from a Vietnamese investment community, bought in at around $1, and sold it all at $7 cashed out and set something aside for myself and my family. After that NEAR ran to $20, so I missed the bigger win, but I'm at peace with it: I hit my expectation. > Your stake on governance and is House of Stake a win or a loss? Ans: I read it as a win, with caveats. We've run both online and offline workshops teaching people how to use IronClaw in Vietnamese turning it into real utility and practice, not just theory. And I'm a Black Dragon DAO member. While most of the old members have moved on, we're the next generation keeping the Black Dragon memecoin alive because we know how big it is. It carries the brand of our founder Illia Polosukhin, and it's one of the memecoins we're confident will lead the memecoin market on NEAR This could be NEAR's cycle but don't treat it as the only good coin out there. Never stop researching and analyzing; there are plenty of new, high-potential coins worth your attention. I'm not very close to the day-to-day HoS activities right now, I'm heads-down on my own work but I keep following it and will step in to support whenever it's needed.I downloaded the open-source version, built tooling around it, and ran it locally before agentdotneardotai even launched. NEAR Protocol have always had a Crush on Mert since 2023 Fast forward to 2026, Mert joins @NEARFoundation governing council Honestly, this is a pretty smart and low-key significant move. Mert’s been one of the more credible voices on Solana for a while, not just because he runs Helius, but because he’s technical, blunt, and actually builds stuff people use. He’s also been early and consistent on the privacy angle with Zcash and on the idea that chains need to connect instead of trying to win everything alone. Him joining the NEAR Foundation Council feels like a natural extension of that, not some random governance seat. For NEAR, it’s useful. They’ve been pushing Intents hard as this cross-chain "market of markets" layer with privacy features, and it’s already doing real volume. Bringing in someone who’s built and scaled serious Solana infrastructure gives them a more operator-oriented voice on product and go-to-market, which is where a lot of chains struggle once the tech is decent. It also strengthens the Solana–NEAR bridge in a practical way rather than just narrative. Illia clearly rates him, and that endorsement matters. For Mert, it’s a logical expansion of his influence. He’s already been talking about how Solana, Zcash, and NEAR can complement each other instead of competing in isolation. Sitting on the Council lets him shape that a bit more directly without leaving Helius. The downside is attention split and some inevitable "why are you helping the other chain" noise from pure Solana people, but that comes with the territory when you stop being maximalist. Overall, it’s a positive signal for both sides and for the broader idea that crypto liquidity works better when it’s connected rather than siloed. TBH The footage itself is casual; drinks, charts on phones, nothing flashy which is kind of the point of the caption. But the reactions from older accounts (Andy’s "I don’t fit in anymore," Miyamoto’s "cesspit of degenerac") hit because a lot of people still remember when this scene felt different. She’s not inventing the culture; she’s just very good at existing in the version that currently pays. They kept missing each other for years in crypto 🔥. She invited him to an event in Asia and he didn’t go. He tried to get her help with Korea and she was too busy in Vietnam during COVID. Then in 2022 @VitalikButerin randomly suggested Illia as his fireside partner in Seoul, Erica flew him out, they had a coffee, and started dating a year later. He said he was immediately smitten 😅 because she was “extremely beautiful, extremely elegant, and very powerful.” Classic crypto origin story. Now they’re in SF with kids because the AI stuff is actually happening there and traveling constantly got harder. Illia’s take on AI is also pretty grounded for someone who co-wrote the attention paper: before ChatGPT it was just invisible backend (search, feeds, etc.). Now it’s the front door to the computer. He said they tried the "AI writes all the code so you don’t need apps" idea at NEAR back in 2017 and it was way too early. The models were tiny. He’s basically living that future now; talking to AI to get the actual work done while he spends more time thinking, talking to people, and selling. They’re also doing those low-key "Attention Is All You Eat" dinners and the Open Source AI Summit together. Feels less like a calculated power couple brand and more like two people who already had big separate things going and just kept colliding until it stuck.
