Our latest clinical study has been published in @Nature_NPJ B&M🥳
We found that the blood pressure-lowering effect of beetroot juice is impaired in periodontitis. However, periodontal treatment restored this effect.

Is dietary nitrate good or bad for our health? 🧐
In our recent review, we explore the paradox between dietary nitrate, health and disease. We highlight how the food source may be the single most important factor moderating nitrate metabolism (1/8)

Great start to the weekend… my first, first author paper🥳
Hopefully an important addition to the dietary #nitrate literature🥬

I am pleased to see the first paper from @UniWestScotland @belliesimpson's PhD published 👏🏻. Via an interdisciplinary approach, we demonstrate a longitudinal increase in health-associated nitrite-producing bacteria after treatment in periodontal patients. Link👇🏻#proudsupervisor

We challenge the idea that applications with a longer 'hang-time' (like chewing gums) are always better than applications with a shorter 'hang-time' (drinks).
Why? The salivary glands start recycling nitrate immediately after intake, keeping the nitrate levels high for hours.
