#StormAusten has been named. It brings severe gales and dangerous sea conditions from overnight Thursday through Friday morning. 💨🌊 📍 Coastal Areas Affected: • South Wales (inc. Porthcawl, Gower, Barry) • South West England (inc. Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth) • English Channel Coast (inc. Dorset, Swanage, Isle of Wight) ⚠️ The Risks: Exposed headlands will see severe gales of 70mph+. Expect massive ground swells, flying beach debris, and spray overtopping sea walls. During this storm, these are just a few key points to remember: • Check tide times! Please note during a storm conditions can make actual water levels higher than your predicted tide times! Be prepared; if in doubt don’t risk having that walk. • Cliff safety! Avoid walking along cliff tops during stormy weather conditions! Best to avoid walking along unstable cliff tops at all times. • Please remember that no amount of photos of breaking waves is worth your life. Stay clear of harbours, breakwaters, piers, and any other exposed coastal areas. • Boat safety! If you’re out at sea or thinking of heading out, check your boat over to make sure it’s capable of dealing with the conditions. Also make sure that your onboard equipment is fully working & in date e.g., VHF, PLB, EPIRB, Lifejackets. • If you carry a VHF, please make sure that you’re fully licensed before broadcasting. Unless there’s imminent danger to life, then you’re legally allowed to broadcast a mayday on channel 16. If you see someone in distress in the sea, call 999 & ask for the coastguard! Do not try & rescue them yourself, as you could quickly become the second casualty. @RNLI @HMCoastguard @MCA_media

This is a disgrace. Brave RNLI volunteers being called scum for risking their lives to save others at sea is just plain wrong. So I've signed an open letter of thanks for the RNLI letting them know these thugs do not speak for the rest of us. Add your name act.38degrees.org.uk/act/rnl…

Mother's story starts This story has been shared with the consent of the mother and family. 💔 A MOTHER FOUND OUT HER DAUGHTER DROWNED AT SEA ON FACEBOOK DURING THE SECOND HEATWAVE OF THIS YEAR. 32 HOURS LATER, FORMAL NOTIFICATION CAME. Your child, family member, friend is missing. You are terrified. You are waiting. Praying. Hoping. And then before any officer comes to her door. Before anyone had the decency to tell her she saw it. A post. Public. For everyone. Her worst nightmare, shared online before she even knew it was true. 32 hours. That’s how long it took emergency services to formally notify her. But long before that notification ever came her daughter’s name, her tragedy, her pain was already all over social media. Someone who knew her released her name and asked that it NOT be published yet the press released it anyway. They ignored that request. They published her name for the world to see before she had even been officially told. Mother's story ends This isn’t a story I’ve made up. This is what happened to a mother who contacted me. She wasn’t told by authorities. She found out online. From strangers. And she isn’t the only one. Other families have reached out to me with the exact same heartbreaking story. They’ve signed our petition. We are speaking up because no one else will speak for them. This same thing happens when people see fire engines rushing to rivers, Coast Guard officers rushing along the coast, lifeboats heading out to sea. They are quick to speculate before anyone knows the facts. It always starts the same way: Missing person presumed drowned. Presumed. Not confirmed. Not verified. Just a guess treated as fact, broadcast before the family even knows to grieve. Lifeboats, swift water rescue teams and other emergency services they know. They respect. They hold back. So how is it that the press, the local pages, the bloggers always get the unconfirmed details first. It’s because when a lifeboat launches they’ll probably be listening in on a scanner or they’ll be close by watching the incident unfold. The same thing happens river related, but without a scanner — they simply see the activity and jump to conclusions. Because they don’t care about respect. They care about speed. They care about shares. They care about being first even if being first means destroying a family before the truth is even known. Even when explicitly asked not to publish a name they do it anyway. They publish presumed as if it’s fact. They speculate on cause of death. They treat human grief like content and they are literally MONETISING GRIEF. Every click, every share, every view it all generates profit. They are making money from a family’s worst nightmare. And when they’re wrong? Or when it’s too early? they never apologise. The damage is already done. Families deserve dignity before headlines. They deserve a knock on the door not a notification on a screen. They deserve to be told first before the whole world is told. They deserve their wishes for privacy to be respected not ignored for clicks and profit. This has to change. 🚫 No media outlet, no local page, no one should publish cause of death, identity, or details of any incident whether it is sea, river, canal, quarry or any other form of open water until emergency services have fully confirmed every single fact AND the family has been notified privately and properly. And when a family or loved one asks for privacy it must be respected. Human dignity is not a product to be sold. It is not a price you pay for a fast headline. Speculation kills hope. Unconfirmed reports cause unnecessary, unbearable pain. Families are not content. They are grieving human beings and they deserve to be treated as such. Sign the petition. Share this petition. Demand that people come before profit. That dignity comes before clicks. That families are told before anyone else. 💙 petition.parliament.uk/petit…

Too many families are finding out that their loved one are involved in water incidents & they are even finding out from media, press & social media that people have died without their families been formally notified. This is disrespectful & needs to stopped. This is why I’ve started a petition to hopefully implement new legislation to stop it. Please sign & share 🙏 petition.parliament.uk/petit…

Petition is now live link👇🏻 During the recent heatwave, many people tragically lost their lives. Most concerning is how unverified reports spread so quickly through media outlets and the press. No family should ever have to learn of a loved one’s death, or see speculation about how it happened, through unconfirmed news coverage. This is why I’ve launched a petition calling for stricter rules: media and press must not report on cause of death or incident details until fully confirmed by emergency services. Families deserve to be told properly, privately, and first. The petition is now live — please sign and share the link with family & fiends. 🚨 Stop media speculation around coastal and inland water deaths – please sign and share It is unforgivable that families learn their loved one has died from a news alert, a headline, or a social media post – before anyone has even had the simple respect to tell them properly. When something happens on our coasts, rivers, lakes or any inland water, too many media outlets run stories, claim lives are lost, and spread guesswork as fact – long before emergency services have confirmed anything, and long before specially trained officers have even knocked on the door. Right now there is no law in the UK that stops this. All we have is guidance that outlets can ignore whenever it suits them. This is not about stopping the press doing their job. This is about stopping them inflicting completely avoidable, devastating pain on families. Families deserve to be treated with dignity: told the truth gently, privately, and by people trained to do that – not by someone chasing clicks or a breaking news banner. I am asking the government to make three simple things law: • No story or claim about a death or serious incident on coastal or inland waters can ever be published until every single detail is fully verified and confirmed by the emergency services. • Families must always be told first by specially trained officers knocking at their door before any information at all is released publicly. • Speculation must never, ever be presented as fact. This is not a huge demand. It is the absolute bare minimum level of respect every single family deserves. Sign the petition here: petition.parliament.uk/petit…

Finds this totally unacceptable @YWHelp has put a block on me discussing current signage around #FarnleyReservoir. Current signage mixes water safety messages with anti social behaviour rules which dilutes safety messages. Furthermore they know they have a huge build up of silt within this reservoir & they know that it’s a potential entrapment risk yet they fail to provide signage that states this. As they are aware of this and fail to act, this has left me with no other choice but to take action on this. They are potentially breaching the following which they are completely disregarding: Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957, Occupiers’ Liability Act 1984, and the Reservoirs Act 1975. Due to these reasons they’ve been reported to Health and Safety Executive (HSE). They thought I was bluffing when I mentioned this, how wrong they were. They’ve also denied to have a site meeting with myself to discuss these issues. @missmybabyboy @WLDispatch @RachelReevesMP @MarkJSewards @kattturner

🚨 IF THE COASTGUARD CAN’T RESPOND… WHO WILL? Our coastal emergency service — the 4th Emergency Service, Coastguard is in crisis. Volunteers are resigning before the September changes even hit. We are about to lose the very people who know our waters, our cliffs, and our beaches better than anyone.
