You have no enemies, you say? Alas, my friend, the boast is poor, He who has mingled in the fray Of duty, that the brave endure, Must have made foes. If you have none, Small is the work that you have done. You've hit no traitor on the hip, You've dashed no cup from perjured lip, You've never set the wrong to right. You've been a coward in the fight. "No Enemies" by Charles Mackay

In early 2000’s or so, there were these numbers in newspaper of women operators where guys would call and waste their time LLMs are way more capable than they are trained to act, but if they weren’t capped and a bit messy, you’d finish your goal too fast (not good)
Current frontier LLMs do something I call "spinbusy". Where they make the least amount of incremental progress towards a goal, over and over again, instead of doing the obvious thing and just completing the goal Spinbusy LLMs. Just wasting tokens, running tests, wasting time

I've changed out my desk chair for a yoga ball and it's mostly great for my back. the only issue is that when I fart it reverberates like some kind of strange Roman war horn

WalShadow is probably one of the most ambitious projects we’ve taken on. When we decided to build this six months ago, we genuinely weren’t sure how it would pan out. We were going directly after Postgres’s physical write-ahead log, an area backed by decades of deep engineering expertise. Now, seeing the early results with customers, especially Postgres → ClickHouse replication latency in the hundreds of milliseconds, it feels totally worth it. It opened up a new world tousers, that wasn’t possible before. This wouldn’t have been possible without the team’s deep expertise in Postgres replication, the operational lessons we’ve learned onboarding thousands of customers to Postgres CDC, and our experience deep in the Postgres replication and backups, creating and contributing to WAL-G and WAL-RUS I’m really excited for more customers to try it out. And perhaps the most exciting part: this brings ClickHouse much closer to becoming a physical analytics standby for Postgres. 🚀 github.com/ClickHouse/walsha… @ClickHouseDB

Gonna crash out real quick. The "you have to go to college if you want to be anything" feminist crowd convinced my wife she had to go to college and get a degree if she ever wanted to amount to anything So she got 2 degrees, and then after getting laid off from her job in 2020, the one the first two got her, decided to get a nursing degree. We paid for that one out of pocket, and it was fully worth it But the first two, those were nothing but boomer parents telling her to do things they never did because society said that's was the measuring stick of success But it's not. Out of all the people I know who went to college, most of them are worthless daily instruction taking cogs in the wheel of shit Because the truth is she loves being a stay at home mother, and she's incredible at it. Yet society *still* keeps telling her that's a worthless disposition, while we continue to see the downfalls of daycare and all the shitty humans it produces Meanwhile the families are saddled with bullshit "feminism" usury loans trying to make women lie about what can actually make them feel fulfilled Theres no more important job than being a mom. In fact I'd be willing to bet the absence of Mom's is exactly what's wrong with the world right now
