We bounced a radio signal off Venus' surface! On 17+18 Oct the Dwingeloo transmitted and Astropeiler Stockert received the echoes, 42 million km each way. We decoded a 10-character message from the echo. And we're not finished yet: more echos on 24+25 Oct.

Sad to see @hacktoberfest collapse. I participated, spread the word, and set up a lot of GitHub repos and coached a lot of people through their first pull requests.
It reads ‘infested with corporate AI promotion’ now.
Kind of sad about this. It was fun and genuinely useful.

What are people actually building with RISC-V?
Discover “RISC-V Builders”, a YouTube Live series where the people behind a project get together to talk about what they built, how they built it, and what they learned along the way.
Our first episode will cover: How a student-built RISC-V processor went from teaching core to running DOOM.
Join Tobias Scheipel (TU Graz) & Bernd Stelzl (TU Graz) live on Wednesday September 23 at 8AM PDT: hubs.la/Q04xwgbX0

A set of 2304 MHz EME septum feeds (circularly polarized, based on OK1DFC's design) passed return loss and basic operational tests this past week. Here they are in Remote Lab.
These will be used to test EVE signal designs and to operate EME as W6ORI, our club call.

ALT Two aluminum sheet metal fits sit on the bases on a folding table at ORI's remote labs. A spectrum analyzer sits between them. The spectrum analyzer was used to measure return loss and SWR. The feeds met or exceeded specifications across the board and were then used for point to point link with hackRFs and portapacks.
#EME tests for #EVE signal constructions are coming together for the October inferior conjunction of Earth and Venus.

Last Sunday, we observed the flaring source Cyg X-3 with VLBI between the amateur radio telescopes in Stockert and Dwingeloo. We had to observe low above the horizon making calibration hard, but it's still quite bright - a few Jansky, as was noted in ATel 18003 on 24 August.
