Last week, we were pleased to take part in a panel session on “Beneficial ownership – practical implementation advice” at the @ATAFtax Exchange of Information conference in Zimbabwe, alongside colleagues from the revenue administrations of Nigeria, Seychelles, and Zimbabwe.
The discussion explored why #BeneficialOwnership (BO) information matters for #tax, and how interoperability between tax authorities’ systems and BO registers can make that information usable in practice.

Since beneficial ownership registers were first introduced ten years ago, the evidence base for effective reforms that change behaviours and boost transparency has been growing. But without a central hub, this evidence has been hard to find.

This week in Brussels, #OpeningExtractives joined #EITI2026 to explore how #BeneficialOwnership data can move from #transparency commitments to practical use in the #extractive sector, as well as to celebrate the launch of the revised Opening Extractives Licensing Manual.
The licensing manual builds on these lessons to provide practical guidance on using BO information to strengthen licensing processes and identify and address potential risks, and support regulatory authorities responsible for allocating and governing extractive licences.
