My mother, @Aleema_KhanPK Aleema Khan’s 30-day detention period under the colonial-era Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law has now expired. Yet, despite the expiry of her 30-day detention period, we have received no further order from the Lahore High Court, nor any official communication from the Punjab Home Department or jail authorities explaining the legal basis for her continued detention or confirming her release. On what legal grounds is she still being held? Why has she not been released? Since the day she was abducted and subsequently detained under the MPO, she has been denied access to both her family and legal counsel. One of the strongest voices advocating for her brother, Imran Khan @ImranKhanPTI, has also been silenced. Thirty days have passed. No family access. No legal access. No justice. Are the authorities preparing to extend her detention for another 30 days? If so, on what grounds? We demand her immediate release. Not another day of silence, obstruction of justice, or denial of her most basic rights is acceptable. #imrankhan

Aleema Khan was detained under 3 MPO, and her sisters were arrested later that same night after they broke into Sohail Khan’s house. Our family and lawyers have reportedly been denied access, while court petitions appear to be going unheard. Tuesday two weeks ago our cousin Qasim Zaman was also abducted by government agencies under 3MPO. Where are Pakistan’s courts? Have they forgotten their constitutional duty? It has been 20 days since my mother, Noreen Niazi and my khalas, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan were detained under MPO orders and they have yet to be granted access to their family or lawyers. Our family continues to wait, hoping to see them, speak to them and ensure their safety!

Currently, my Aunties are still abducted. Family and lawyers have received no update on how they are, nor why they are incarcerated. Concerning my father, there is complete silence. My brother and I have had no contact with him for more than six months. We do not even know the true state of his health. Meanwhile, thousands of Pakistanis are peacefully taking to the streets to protest against his illegal and politically motivated imprisonment. However, the people of Pakistan have not given up. No barricade, intimidation or repression can muzzle the people’s demand for justice and their democratic right to be heard. There can be no lasting peace or stability while their democratic will is suppressed and their chosen leader remains behind bars.
