Day 224/365: Every night in the ER, I see patients with side effects from the Semaglutides (ie ozempic, wegovy). Vomiting, rash, metabolic abnormalities… I’ve had patients requiring colostomy, with permanent injury to their G.I. tracks… my colleagues have had patients develop Boerhaave’s syndrome - where you rip open your esophagus from the forceful vomiting. Sexuality is affected, Mental Health is affected. Your heart is affected. And yes, your weight is affected - you may lose, but eventually you gain, unfortunately. Even patients who stopped the meds gain their weight back and more within a very short period of time because they never learned to properly eat. The one thing I rarely see? Patients acknowledging the fact that ANY of their symptoms are due to this “magical” medication. It is better to be thin apparently and forget the reason that they are in my ER creating thousands of dollars of bills for themselves is likely related to the medication that is “helping” them to lose weight. Try something that’s simple but not quite as easy… but won’t cause permanent harm, nor drop your lean muscle mass making you less likely to be healthy and active…a ketogenic diet. If you take out the unprocessed high carbohydrate foods, the sodas, the artificial sweeteners, the seed oils, not only will you find that your blood sugar and weight to stabilize, but you will actually be able to learn how to eat and maintain that healthy lifestyle for life!
