A trough is expected to strengthen local rain-cloud development over northern Oman from October 19 to 21, according to the latest weather outlook issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The outlook also shows a tropical depression in the southern Arabian Sea continuing to move towards the Horn of Africa. In its detailed report issued on Sunday, October 18, the CAA said the depression was expected to move generally west to northwest, with no direct impact on Oman anticipated over the following five days. However, high and medium-level clouds associated with the system could gradually bring scattered rain to parts of Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates from Wednesday, October 21. At the time of Sunday’s assessment, the depression was centred near latitude 7.7°N and longitude 59.0°E, with winds around its centre estimated at 17–27 knots, equivalent to 31–50 km/h. The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre continues to monitor developments. The CAA urged the public to follow its official weather bulletins and reports.
