We live in a privileged age in that never before in the history of the Church has it been more possible for the average lay person to immerse themselves fully in the Liturgy of the Church, whether it takes the form of praying the Divine Office or meditating on the day’s Mass propers. It is chiefly through the treasuries of the Liturgy that we can grow more and more enriched by the manner in which nuptial love and affection is exchanged daily between Christ and His Mystical Bride. We should all heed the Pope’s call to delve even further into these sacred mysteries each day.

“There is no cheerful law of Progress in history. The weak go to the wall, and people who lack imagination and fortitude are swept into the rubbish bin. So—unless we summon forth all the intelligence and power of character that lie dormant in us—it may be with us moderns...”

“To see in Catholicism one religion among others, one system among others, even if it be added that it is the only true religion, the only system that works, is to mistake it’s very nature…Catholicism is religion itself. It is the form that humanity must put on in order to finally be itself.” - Henri De Lubac

“A second temple rises on the ruins of the old. Canterbury has gone its way, and York is gone, and Durham is gone, and Winchester is gone. It was sore to part with them. We clung to the vision of past greatness, and would not believe it could come to nought; but the Church in…

“Virtue may be assailed, but never hurt,
Surprised by unjust force, but not enthralled,
Yea even that which mischief meant most harm
Shall in the happy trial prove most glory.
But evil on itself shall back recoil,
And mix no more with goodness, when at last
Gathered like scum, and settled to itself
It shall be in eternal restless change
Self-fed, and self-consum'd.

“Fires will be kindled to testify that two and two make four. Swords will be drawn to prove that leaves are green in summer. We shall be left defending, not only the incredible virtues and sanities of human life, but something more incredible still, this huge impossible universe which stares us in the face. We shall fight for visible prodigies as if they were invisible. We shall look on the impossible grass and the skies with a strange courage. We shall be of those who have seen and yet have believed.”

Atheism thinks that the wilderness preceded the garden. Religion thinks that the garden preceded the wilderness. That is the core difference between the two.

Not only is life not a dress rehearsal, it’s a continuous nightmare coincidence of first rehearsal with first public performance…only the improvisers survive; only the great improvisers triumph.
Children should be learning Chaucer in elementary school so that they can understand Shakespeare in high school.

I’m a former English major, and I strongly disagree. Shakespeare is inaccessible and alienating to the vast majority of children and, frankly, to many adults. Lit teachers have a romantic attachment to it that’s deeply detrimental to the learning of contemporary students.
