Axios reported back in May that the administration is folding CBP border turnaways into the same headline deportation totals, the exact composite method used under Obama that Republicans spent years attacking as inflated.
Homan said it himself to the Washington Examiner: “Deportations are over 800,000, counting the Border Patrol, too. We are trying to do the same thing we did during the Obama administration, looking at the numbers, pull the numbers together.”
And he got an award from Barack Obama for doing the same thing.
In 2015, Obama gave him the Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service for overseeing more than 920,000 removals.

When I saw the 'maroon and gold' face mask, I knew we had found Brian Cole Jr. Many months ago, during my first long sit-down interview with Brian's mother, I asked her if Brian typically wore a white N95 mask during the COVID era. (Like the actual J6 b*omber was wearing.) She said, "Oh no! Brian hated the way those felt on his face. I made his masks for him." She made masks for the whole family and friends, in all kinds of fabric patterns, including the team colors of the then-named "Washington Football Team." (2020-2021 was the interim period after the local NFL franchise had abandoned the "Redskins" and before they became the "Commanders.")
When I showed Brian's mother this screenshot of the mask he was wearing on the night of J5, 2021, she started crying. She knew that was her son.

• New Balance reflective shoes
• Dark jacket with a visible tag still attached
• Holds his cellphone close to his face
The government claims that Brian is the J6 pipe bomber, which is impossible because he is observed in a completely different area when the bombs were being placed.
Brian has been sitting in jail for nearly a year for a crime he did NOT commit.

The fact that Tom Homan is only now talking about this worksite enforcement plan is the tell.
He says the plan works. It cuts off the job magnet so people stop coming. But if it is that effective, why is it just now moving off the shelf and up to Secretary Mullin?
That is the status quo approach to deportations. You can talk tough about the border all day, but the real incentive is the paycheck.
Leaving that piece sitting in a drawer for years while everything else gets prioritized is exactly how the system keeps itself comfortable.
