Al-Nablus University in the West Bank sets up an exhibition celebrating the 9 August bombing of a Sbarro restaurant in Israel, in which 16 civilians were killed.
The Palestinian Authority makes the effort to build a mock Sbarro storefront and include props of mutilated body parts, to trumpet the perceived success of Palestinian resistance against Israel.
Visitors are required to walk over Israeli and American flags to enter and leave the exhibition.

In 1903, workers were digging a drainage channel inside a gorge in Somerset. They hit bone. A body. Curled up. Deep inside the rock.

The war crimes, the rapes of women from 12 to 71 years old, and the atrocities committed by the Muslim Turks during the invasion of Cyprus in 1974, ONLY 52 years ago, have been recorded through testimonies and evidence in a report of the European Commission of Human Rights.
According to the report, mass killings of civilians were carried out systematically by the Turkish army. Not only unarmed soldiers who had surrendered, but also civilians, including children from 6 months to 11 years old, women and old people up to the age of 90, even people who were paralyzed, mentally disabled, and blind, were killed by Turkish soldiers.
Eyewitnesses reported the killings of hundreds of people by the Turkish forces. The complaints also include killings of people who had tried to visit areas under Turkish military control in order to collect their belongings from their homes.
A witness stated that in this mass killing she lost her husband, her father, two sons-in-law, and an uncle. She herself and a group of fellow villagers were taken prisoner by Turkish soldiers when they tried to reach the mountains to escape the bombardment. All the men who were captured were civilians and were wearing civilian clothes. The Turkish soldiers told them that they would wait for orders from their officer, who would decide their fate. When the officer arrived, he appeared angry and ordered the soldiers to get down and load their weapons, which they did. Another soldier, whom she described as "a good man," then intervened, and the Turkish soldiers discussed the matter for half an hour. They then separated the men from the women and, in front of the women, began shooting the men. They killed twelve. Some of the men were holding children while they were being shot. Three of those children were wounded.
Another incident reported by a witness is the killing of seventeen members of neighboring families. The victims were ten women and five children, aged from two to nine years. She also submitted a document which she presented as an English translation of a written testimony by a sixteen-year-old child who survived the killing.
According to the report, the Government of Cyprus alleged:
"Mass and repeated rapes of women of all ages, from 12 to 71 years old, and in some cases to such a degree that the victims suffered hemorrhages or became mental wrecks. In some areas enforced prostitution was practiced. All the women and girls were gathered into separate rooms in empty houses. There they were raped repeatedly by the Turkish troops. In certain cases members of the same family were raped repeatedly, in front of their own children. In other cases, women were raped publicly in a bestial manner. In other cases the rapes were accompanied by bestial acts, such as violent biting that caused serious wounds to the victims, striking their heads against the floor, and strangling their necks almost to the point of suffocation. In several cases attempted rapes were accompanied by the stabbing or killing of the victim. The rape victims included pregnant women and mentally disabled women."
Among many other cases, a mentally disabled girl was raped in her home by twenty soldiers, one after another. When the victim began to scream, they threw her from a second-floor window: she suffered a spinal injury and was left paralyzed.
One day after their arrival in the village of Voni, the Turks gathered the girls in a house and raped them.
Turkish soldiers tried to rape a 17-year-old schoolgirl. She resisted and they killed her.
One woman reported that girls were being held in various towns as prostitutes. She had seen with her own eyes at least 25 young girls together.
A woman from Voni was raped on three occasions by four men, one after another. She became pregnant.
"They put us in a school classroom in Voni, along with the rest of the family. They would come in whenever they wanted, choose us, and take us to satisfy their sexual desires. I didn't go out to get rations. I always wore my grandmother's clothes to look old, but they could see my face. I only went out when I needed the toilet. I was constantly wrapped in a blanket, and all the little kids sat on top of me so that the Turks wouldn't keep dragging me away and raping me. This lasted for three months, until the Red Cross arrived."
According to testimonies from doctors recorded in the book by Chrysanthos Chrysanthou, "The Other War of the Doctors in 1974," hundreds of brutally abused women became pregnant and special legislation had to be passed so that they could terminate their pregnancies. Many abortions were performed in private clinics, several at the Nicosia General Hospital, while due to the overcrowding of that hospital with war wounded, many abortions were undertaken by doctors at the hospitals of the British Bases in Dhekelia and Akrotiri. Even the Church of Cyprus had consented through its tolerance to the amendment of the legislation in 1974, so that the abortions of that period became legal.
This happened 52 years ago.
This happened to our mothers, to our sisters, to our grandmothers.

Warren 15, was last seen at Roby train station at around 7.20pm last night, Wednesday 23 September, and extensive work is ongoing to find him.
Warren is white, 5ft 6in tall, of slim build, with short hair at the back and a fringe. When last seen, he was wearing a black Nike tracksuit with a grey cap, and Nike trainers.
He has links to the Fleetwood area of Lancashire.

It began in California in 1942, when trains carried entire families away from the homes they had known for years. Mothers, fathers, children, all Japanese Americans who had built their lives in those valleys. One morning, their orchards were full of life. The next, they stood empty behind signs that read, “Evacuation Completed.”
Bob Fletcher stood by the roadside and watched his neighbors disappear behind barbed wire. They were farmers who had spent years growing strawberries and peaches, working from early morning until the sun went down. They were people he knew and cared about. Now they were being taken away simply because of their ancestry and the fear surrounding them.
The farms they left behind quickly began to suffer. Weeds spread across the fields. Equipment sat unused. Angry whispers moved through the town. Some people wanted the land for themselves. Others believed the families were getting what they deserved.
Bob didn't agree.
He stepped forward and offered to take care of three farms, belonging to the Tsukamotos, the Nittas, and the Okamotos. He promised to keep their fields alive until they could return, even though nobody knew when that would happen, or whether they would ever be allowed to come home.
Bob worked from before sunrise until long after dark. He pruned the trees, repaired equipment, harvested the fruit, and kept each farm going through every season. While he worked, people shouted at him from passing trucks. Some slashed his tires. Others warned him to stop. Bob kept working anyway.
The families had asked him to stay in their homes while they were gone. They wanted him to be safe and comfortable. Bob refused. Instead, he chose to live in a small workers' bunkhouse. It had almost no comfort, but he said it felt right. He wanted to wait for them there.
When he married Teresa in 1943, she joined him in the fields. Together, they worked for families who could no longer work their own land. Teresa's hands helped keep the farms alive too, even though her part of the story is often forgotten when Bob's story is told.
Bob could have kept the money those orchards earned. No one was watching, and plenty of other people took advantage of the situation. But Bob did something different. At the end of each season, he kept only enough to cover what he had earned for his own labor. The rest went into bank accounts for the families. He saved every penny, including the interest, and kept the receipts safe.
Three long years passed before the camps closed and the families were finally allowed to return.
Across California, many Japanese American families came home to find their farms ruined or gone. They opened the doors to empty houses, walked across neglected land, and discovered that their savings had disappeared.
But when the Tsukamoto, Nitta, and Okamoto families stepped off the train in Florin, they found something completely different.
Their fields were still blooming. Their homes looked the way they remembered them. Their equipment was still there and working. And at the bank were the profits Bob had saved for them. Three years of hard work and careful saving were placed back into their hands as though time had been waiting for them to return.
Al Tsukamoto later said Bob was the greatest man he had ever known. He had saved everything they had.
Bob never asked for praise. He simply said he had done what he believed was right. Then he returned to his ordinary life, raising his family with Teresa and leaving the story behind.
Years later, when Bob reached his nineties and eventually turned one hundred, the Japanese American community made sure people knew what he had done. They brought photographs of the orchards in bloom and told their children and grandchildren about the man who had refused to let fear determine what he did.
Bob Fletcher died in 2013 at the age of 101. His church filled with families whose lives had been shaped by what he had done.

In 1773 Dr Johnson watched the Highlanders of Skye perform a dance they had invented. It was called America, and it showed how a village empties.
Boswell wrote it down. One couple begins, and each time they pass another couple, that couple joins, until the whole room is turning and the floor where the dance started is bare. That, the islanders told him, is emigration. One family goes, then the ones who know them, then everyone.
Johnson called it the epidemical fury of emigration, and he had arrived in the middle of it. Ships were leaving Skye and the Western Isles full of clansmen bound for North Carolina.
The reason was cattle. A Highlander's rent had been paid in black cattle and his dinner had come from them, and after Culloden the chiefs turned themselves into landlords and doubled the rents. Some tripled them. The cow that had fed the family now went south to the drover to pay for the land the family stood on.
Then the letters came back from Carolina. Land for the asking. Beef at a few pence a pound. A man's own cattle on his own ground, with no chief and no factor.
So they danced it, and then they did it. Between 1763 and 1775 around 40,000 Highlanders left, and whole townships went at once.
The men who owned the land were appalled. They petitioned the government to stop the ships. Nobody was leaving over freedom of worship or the vote. They were leaving because the best pasture in Scotland could no longer feed the people standing on it.

There IS such a thing as an English ethnicity. And I say this as someone who is descended from immigrants who moved to England.
It's pure, confected gaslighting to pretend that this ethnic group does not exist, or that someone who has moved here from another part of the world, such as China or Nigeria, and who is themselves part of a distinct ethnic group, is therefore just as *ethnically* English as someone whose family lineage in England stretches back hundreds or thousands of years.
Obviously definitions around this stuff will never be perfect, and there will be exceptions to the rule, and so on. I don't think I agree that you can't be 'English' if you aren't ethnically English necessarily, as that again depends on definitions (people use 'English' a bit like 'British', e.g. to denote the country they're from not necessarily their ethnicity). But at its heart the attempt to pretend there's no English ethnicity and to take horror when anyone disagrees is just ideological gaslighting.
And it's pushed by people with a political agenda, who wouldn't dare apply the same logic to non-white ethnic groups elsewhere in the world, and who would in fact deem it racist if anyone attempted to.
None of this means you can't be a citizen of this country and not be part of that ethnic group. It just means that there is a distinct ethnic group that is intrinsically bound up with the history of this country.

Over 80% of the Tutsi population was killed in 100 days in the Rwandan Genocide.
That was between 800,000-1,000,000 people in just 100 days.
To put that into perspective a little, the most efficient death camp that the Nazis operated was Treblinka. Treblinka killed about 870,000-950,000 people in just over one year (operated between July 1942-August 1943).
To extrapolate that a little bit, Treblinka operated for about 13 months.
870,000/13=66,923.0769 deaths per month
950,000/13=73,076.923 deaths per month
Rwanda was just 100 days, or 3 months.
800,000/3=266,666.667 deaths per month
1,000,000/3=333,333.333 deaths per month
On the low end in Rwanda they were killing 200,000 more people per month than in Treblinka. I cannot express this enough about how quick and devastating the Rwandan Genocide was in sheer scale and magnitude.
For comparison sake (I hate this part): In Gaza over 3 years (36 months) we have had a total of about 73,900 reported deaths out of a population of 2,230,000, or 3.3%.
73,900/36=2,052.778 deaths per month
73,900/266,666.667=0.277*
On the low end in Rwanda there were nearly 264,000 more deaths per month than in Gaza. Again, almost the entire Tutsi population was killed in just 100 days. *Not just that, Gaza would account for just 27.7% of the total deaths in one month in Rwanda.
We have no other possible reasonable inference to the magnitude of destruction of a protected group (Tutsi) other than genocide in Rwanda. The law is very clear on this and we should be thankful for the work of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and what they did to bring justice and accountability.
I really do not think people understand exactly what genocide is, how it works, and how abundantly clear it is for us who actually practice this area of law to understand that Gaza does not at all meet the legal elements of the crime of genocide. You cannot prove to a fully conclusive standard that Israel's intent is to destroy, in whole or in part, a protected group (Palestinians), because of their membership in the group. It is not plausible unless you fundamentally change everything we know about what genocide is.

What kind of father does that?
Crashing waves. Chaos. A child struggling in the water, while his own father boards the boat rather than staying to protect him.
I believe scenes like this expose the failures surrounding these crossings, from the charities involved, to the actions of the French authorities, to the decisions being made by the British Government.
People are becoming increasingly angry about what they are seeing.
I genuinely fear that if confidence in the authorities continues to collapse, some people will eventually try to take matters into their own hands.
To be absolutely clear, I am not condoning, encouraging or supporting violence in any way, shape or form.

#MISSING | We are appealing for help in finding 17-year-old Jevan Moore who is missing from home in #Birkdale.
Jevan was last seen on Liverpool Road area in the early hours of yesterday morning (Tuesday 22 September) and extensive enquiries are being carried out to find him.
He is described as 6ft 2in tall, of slim build with shoulder length brown wavy hair.
Jevan usually wears a black bubble coat and black tracksuit bottoms.

The RAF veteran with no known family who needs a final salute
Care home staff are asking the Lancashire community to attend his funeral
Final Call to Arms:
Accrington RAF veteran needs a fitting send off
Care home staff are appealing to the public to ensure a dedicated armed forces veteran receives an honourable send off.
Veteran, Ian, who spent years collecting poppies for the Royal British Legion (RBL) has passed away, and his care home team is appealing to the Lancashire community to give him the honourable send off he deserves.
The veteran, who served with the RAF and had Parachute Regiment connections, passed away peacefully on August 31.
Having spent his retirement actively supporting fellow service members, he leaves behind no known surviving family or next of kin.
Care home staff arranging his funeral are calling on local military organisations, veterans, standard bearers, and members of the public to stand in as his family for one final salute.
A funeral will take place on Thursday, September 24, at 3pm, at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington.
Anyone wishing to pay their respects, line the route, or provide formal military representation is warmly invited to attend.
