DIVISION ONE//ROUND UP A review of the ten Division One fixtures from Saturday Here we go! 👇 @bishopafc v @WhitleyBayFC 📊RESULT// Bishop Auckland 3-1 Whitley Bay Bishops had the better of the opening exchanges with the visitors defending well although a little last gasp at times. Bay had the clearer chances with Mackenzie Sharpe driving just over the cross bar and then forcing home stopper Shane Bland into a fine smothering save. But it was the hosts who took the lead on 37 minutes as recent acquisition Liam Noble opened his Bishops account with a well placed strike from the edge of the box. Mauro Asikaogu was at full stretch to keep out a Gary Martin drive to keep the score at 1-0 at the break. Craig Moody continued his fine run of form in front of goal as he made it 2-0 on 50 minutes as swept home a low Dan Burlace centre, he has now scored in the last four games. Gary Martin then made it three as he netted for the second game running as he headed home a Luke Williams corner just before the hour Bay pulled a goal back on 76 minutes as Sharpe slid in Noah Millington and his finish looped over the onrushing Bland to make it 3-1 but that was as good as it got for the visitors. Bishops made it back to back home league wins as they collected a 6th league victory of the season at Heritage Park. They remain in 2nd place - two points behind leaders Easington Colliery but with a game in hand. Bay have now suffered successive defeats as they dropped two places to 12th after a 5th away league loss of the campaign. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-1 home win so we can be reasonably happy with being just that pesky single home goal away. Next @Blyth_TownFC v @Official_SAFC 📊RESULT// Blyth Town 0-2 Shildon The game’s first effort in anger came from the hosts but Owen Mitchell’s strike cleared the crossbar. The visitors took the lead on 38 minutes as Jack Blackford crashed home a superb volley from a Joe Posthill dink to the back post, Blackford now has five league goals for the season. Ben Urwin put the result beyond doubt when he sidefooted home on 82 minutes to make it 2-0. Blyth are now without a league win in their last nine after a fourth home league defeat of the season - a third home league loss on the bounce. They dropped two places to 15th after back to back blanks in front of goal. Shildon climbed a place to 3rd as they recorded a 6th away league victory of the season. Andy Jennison’s sixth league clean sheet of the campaign helped them to back to back league wins. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 3-1 away win so the two goal winning margin of victory for the Railwaymen is worthy of a self pat on the back. Next @CarlisleCityFC v @NAycliffeFC 📊RESULT// Carlisle City 0-0 Newton Aycliffe The visitors’ Andrew Nelson had an early chance but it came to nothing. Jordan Irving fired City’s first presentable opportunity wide of the upright before ROb McCartney was denied by the lino’s flag after he had tucked away. Jake Dobinson went close for Aycliffe. A Kelvin James header drifted just wide before the half ended goalless shortly after Irving drilled an effort at Tom Shanley in the visitors net. Home stopper Sam Worth was pressed into action early in the second half as he denied Sam Johnson. And although both sides huffed and puffed, with Worth perhaps the busier, it ended goalless. City have now drawn three of their last five in league action. They dropped a place to 15th despite a third home point of the season. Sam Worth with his first league shutout as City recorded a third league clean sheet. Aycliffe also dropped a place, to 10th, after a third awayday draw of the season in league action. Tom Shanley kept his, and the Newtonians, fifth league clean sheet of the campaign. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 1-1 draw so the goalless stalemate was the draw call was a great shout from us. Next @crooktown_afc v @NorthallertonFC 📊RESULT// Crook Town 3-0 Northallerton Town Connor Shields should have given the hosts an early lead but he fired over from six yards after Corey NIcholson’s low centre. But the hosts were ahead on 15 minutes as Joe Bates drilled home from the edge of the box - he has now scored in the last three league games. Shields made it two on 22 minutes as he stooped to head home another Nicholson centre. Nicholson then took aim himself but dragged his effort wide of post before an Ally freekick fellow well wide of the upright at the other end. Bates claimed his second of the game on the stroke of halftime, as he volleyed home after a long throw. A goalless second half followed as Crook’s first half treble sealed all three points. Crook returned to winning ways as they eased to a 6th league victory of the season at the Millfield, as Oliver Basey kept his fourth league clean sheet of the season - and the Black & Ambers’ fifth. Northallerton fell to a 9th away league defeat of the season - and the sixth awayday loss on the bounce. They remained in 17th place despite failing to score in a sixth league outing, only Penrith have more league blanks(10). 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-1 home win so a decent shout all things considered. Next @Official_ECAFC v @NBFC_Official 📊RESULT// Easington Colliery 3-1 Newcastle Benfield The visitors had the first sight of goal but Jack Roys headed over when well placed. Predictably Liam Adamson followed with the Colliers first effort but he dragged his strike wide. Adamson then forced visiting stopper James Hughes into a low save from range. Benfield’s Promise Nzumba then hit the cross bar. Before Michael Colquhoun saw an effort saved by Colliers’ No1 James Hopkinson. The visitors took the lead just before the half hour mark, Nzumba prodding home after a spot of penalty box pinball following a corner. Nathan Greenwood brought the hosts back level on 37 as he ran clear to curl home to score for the third game running. That was the Colliers 50th league goal of the campaign. The Colliers would head into the break with a lead after Adamson volleyed home from a Jame Watson centre two minutes into first half added time. Adamson had also scored in the last three. Benfeld thought they’d be awarded a penalty but the officials settled on a free kick, which was well off target when eventually taken. Denny Tapping forced Hughes into a smart stop but Adamson gave the hosts a two goal cushion as he rounded the keeper to slot home his 21st league goal of the season on 77 minutes. Hopkinson produced a fine late save to deny James Wilson as the Colliers claimed all three points. Easington retained top spot as they claimed a 9th home league victory of the season. Adamson scored two for the third game running as the Colliers made it three league wins on the bounce. Benfield have now lost four league games in a row - and are winless in six after an 8th away league loss of the season. They remained bottom, three points adrift of Penrith in 20th, who also have a game in hand on the Lions. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 4-1 home win so a little unlucky not to record a late BANG ON but a decent shout nonetheless. Next @kendaltownfc v @BirtleyTFC 📊RESULT// Kendal Town 2-1 Birtley Town Niall Cowperthwaite opened the scoring on five minutes after he tucked away off the foot of the post following a smart one-two with Joe Wilkinson. His first goal of the season. Cowperthwaite saw a free kick palmed over by visiting stopper Alfie Gordon but shortly after Gordon’s punch from a cross hit the back of a defender to fall kindly for Wilkinson who tapped into the empty net on 11 minutes. Wilkinson then dragged a shot well wide when well paced after a clever Cowperthwaite flick. Nick Marley blocked a Matt Bailey clearance but the ball went just wide of the upright, then Reece Harrison shot over from seven yards under heavy pressure. Tom Russell then nearly added a home third but his low shot came back off the post. Host up by two at the half. Owen Lancaster volleyed home from a corner on 55 minutes to make it 2-1, two goals in three outings for the defender. A Marley header looped onto the cross bar as the game entered the last fifteen but although the endeavour continued there was no further addition to the scoresheet. Kendal returned to winning ways as they claimed a fourth home league victory of the season. They remained in 16th despite the three points but moved to within striking distance of the sides above them. Birtley dropped a place to 7th after a third awayday league defeat of the season. The Hoops suffered back to back league defeats for the first time this campaign. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 3-2 away win so we were a little wide of the mark. It happens, it's ok. We will be back, as will Birtley. Next @nbsfc2018 v @MarskeUnitedFC 📊RESULT// Newcastle Blue Star 3-2 Marske United The hosts had already created a couple of early opportunities down there right before Jakub Zych headed home a right winged Joe Eggleston cross to open the scoring on 25 minutes. Eggleston was again the provider as his cross found Ben Shodeinde on 34 minutes and the lively debutant headed home the hosts second. The visitors were awarded a penalty two minutes before the break as Lewis Scorgie pulled down Jey Draper, Kenzie Harker stepped up to convert from twelve yards to make it 2-1 at the break. Zych saw Seasiders stopper Mike Algie save well from a couple of efforts before Josh Follin made it 3-1 on 83 after Algie had made another couple of good saves in the build up before the Blue Star No.8 found the bottom corner from twelve yards. Leo Robinson pulled a goal back on 90+6 minutes, a crisp strike from 22 yards that found the top corner. Blue Star’s interim management team tasted victory for the first time as the Scotswood outfit claimed a first league win in three - and a fourth home league win of the season. The three points took them up two places to 13th. Marske’s goal drought ended at 396 minutes, a little over 6 ½ hours, but they still fell to a fifth away league defeat of the season. They stayed in 18th place but have now lost five league games on the bounce. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 1-1 draw, and we almost called tie as these two refound a little form in front of goal. A big win for Blue Star. Next @redcartownfc v @penrith_afc 📊RESULT// Redcar Town 3-2 Penrith Debutant Greg McCarragher, who joined in the week from Kendal Town, bent an early effort wide for the visitors. However Penrith did take the lead as Connor Hammell curled a low strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the box on 14 minutes. His first goal of the season. Hammell nearly doubled that lead but was thwarted by a superb block by Jayden Sekete. Kayden Robinson-Coley brought the hosts back level on 26 minutes as he reacted quickest to tuck home the rebound after Lewis Boyd parried a Kyran Clark low shot. Boyd then made a couple of good stops to deny Clark and then Carmichael but five minutes before the break the Penrith No1 was beaten by a Carmichael penalty after Clark had been fouled. But the visitors would head into the break all square. Hammell drilled home his second of the afternoon, and of the season, five minutes into first half added time. Carmichael spent ten minutes on the naughty step early in the second half with Kevin McKenna forcing Will Cowey into action with the hosts temporarily down to ten. The returned Carmichael fired just wide of the upright before Luke Brown pulled his effort wide as the visitors looked for a winner. And just as the game looked to be heading for a draw, the ball fell kindly to substitute Cam Wilson who lifted the ball over Boyd to claim the win five minutes into added time. Redcar saw their unbeaten league run to five games as they collected a third league victory at the Neeform. A third league win on the bounce saw them climb two places up to 9th. Penrith lost for the eighth time on their travels as they remained in 20th place. They have now won just once in eight league games. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-1 home win so a very decent shout from us I think you will agree. Next @ThornabyFC_ v @YarmEaglescliff 📊RESULT// Thornaby 0-1 Yarm & Eaglescliffe Kieron Parnaby saw an early effort turned onto the post from visiting stopper Callum Elliot before the visitors were awarded a penalty after Sam Conway was adjudged to have been pushed. The usually reliable Tom Atkinson saw his spotkick turned round the post by Sam Taylor as the Eagles failed from twelve yards for the first time this season after four previously successful spot kicks. Y&E were undaunted though and took the lead from the resultant corner as Joe Dalton headed home on 16 minutes. One goal separated the sides at the break. Taylor saved well at his near post from sub Harry Williams just after the hour mark. Both sides grafted as the second half progressed, with the hosts on the front foot, but the closest they came to an equaliser was a Luke Drummond header that was superbly saved by Roberts five minutes from time. Thornaby have now lost four league games on the bounce as they failed to score for only the third time this season in league action. They stayed in 8th place despite a fourth home league loss. Yarm moved up a place to 4th after Callum Elliott’s fourth league shutout helped them to a 6th league away victory of the season. Their unbeaten league run now stands at six games, including wins in the last three. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-2 draw so the crystal ball obviously needs a rub, as did our eyes when we saw bagsman TA had missed a pen. Next @WhickhamFC v @HordenCWFC 📊RESULT// Whickham 2-5 Horden CW The hosts were ahead on six minutes as Favour Ekomemen tapped home at the back stick from an Arron Zamor ball across the six yard box. Ewan Purdy’s first goal of the season brought the Marras back square on the half hour with a precise finish from the edge of the box. All square at the break, 1-1. Purdy turned provider on 52 minutes as his corner was met by the head of Ben Riding to make it 2-1. It was three on 68 minutes, Jack Pounder heading home from a Jack Turnbull cross, and then barely a minute later it was four as Chris Wallace crashed home off the bar. The Marras then scored a third in three minutes as Riding claimed his second of the afternoon with another header. Jesse Nelson pulled a goal back from the penalty spot four minutes from time but the visitors took the points. Whickham have now lost three on the bounce in league action after a fourth league defeat this season at the Glebe. They stayed in 19th place. Horden have now won four league games on the bounce as they hit five goals for the first time this season in league action to claim a fourth awayday win in NL1. They leapfrogged Birtley Town into 6th place. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-1 away win so apart from the woeful short predicted goals we at least got the outcome on the nose. DIVISION ONE//ROUND UP A review of the eight Division One fixtures from Tuesday evening. Here we go! 👇 @BirtleyTFC v @CarlisleCityFC 📊RESULT// Birtley Town 0-2 Carlisle City The hosts had the game’s first effort in anger but Matty Ward’s shot from distance was well saved by City stopper, and skipper, Aaron Taylor. Liam Wotherspoon drove one from the edge of the box after a good run but again Taylor was the equal of the Birtley man’s strike. City's first presentable sight of goal came just before the half hour but Rob McCartney fired over the crossbar from 18 yards. Keighran Kerr then had a great chance to give City the lead but his effort was off target as the first half ended goalless. The visitors opened the scoring just three minutes after the restart, McCartney slotted home from a Jordan Irving assist - McCartney scoring for the second game running as he took his personal tally to six league goals. The Hoops hit the crossbar as the game entered the final quarter of an hour but it was City who claimed the crucial second goal, Ewan Tedford swept home his third league goal of the campaign to give the visitors a two goal cushion with ten to play. Birtley failed to score for the first time since an opening day blank as they saw a five game unbeaten league run end. They dropped a place to 6th after a fourth home league loss of the season. City claimed a first league win in five as they continued their Vase momentum with just their second away league victory of the season. Aaron Taylors’s second league shutout helped them move up two places to 13th. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 3-1 home win and we were canny wrong. Kirkup’s men can be a tricky bunch and they proved that against the in-form Hoops. Next @bishopafc v @crooktown_afc 📊RESULT// Bishop Auckland 4-2 Crook Town The hosts went ahead with ten minutes played, Gary Martin heading home from a Craig Moody cross - Martin’s eighth league goal of the season. That lead was doubled on 24 minutes as Collins Unuareokpa turned home a low Luke Williams centre to make it 2-0. The visitors responded just after the half hour, a right wing centre deceived home stopper Shane Bland for Josh Allen to turn into an open net - his first goal since returning to the club. Moody restored the hosts two goal advantage with a low drive with 45+1 minutes on the clock, but Crook still had time to reduce the deficit before the break. Joe Bates made it 3-2 in the fourth minute of first half added time as he netted for the second game running with a close range finish. Crook should have been level with twenty to play but Max Brandon missed the target when well placed. Former Crook man Moody then claimed his second of the evening to make it 4-2 on 77 minutes, Martin returned the wingers’ earlier assist for Moody to head home his ninth league goal of the season. Bishops returned to the top of Division One as they collected a fifth home league win of the campaign to halt a three league games winless run. Crook dropped a place to 12th after a sixth awayday league loss. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-1 home win so we can be reasonable happy with our call, we said the visitors wouldn’t make it easy for the hosts - and they didn’t. Next @kendaltownfc v @Official_SAFC 📊RESULT// Kendal Town 1-3 Shildon The Railwaymen started well on the ball but it was the hosts who crafted the first presentable chance of the game, good work from DJ Taylor to find Jamie Looker whose effort was well saved by Andy Jennison. The visitors were ahead on 21 minutes, and in fortuitous circumstances, as an attempted clearance from home stopper Matt Bailey ricocheted off a home defender to fall kindly to Joe Posthill who swept into an unguarded net. Taylor saw an effort cleared off the line by the visitors Leighton Harris before Shildon doubled their lead as Billy Greulich-Smith headed home from a corner on 29 minutes. The hosts went close through Looker and then Josh Green but it was the clinical visitors that claimed the next goal, Ben Reay pounced on the loose ball after a Bailey save to lash home on 44 minutes, 3-0. The lively Looker fired into the sidenetting as the hosts pushed early in the second half, Joe Wilkinson then forced Jennison into another fine save. Looker got his reward for his efforts on 65 minutes as he bundled home a Bailey Kenny centre to make it 3-1 - he has now scored in the last three league games. Greulich-Smith fired over when well placed to claim his second, then Harris followed suit by clearing the crossbar from range. Taylor saw a crisp effort tipped behind by Jennison before a corner caused panic in the visitors box but it ended 3-1 to the Railwaymen. Kendal fell to just their second home league defeat of the season, as a three game unbeaten run at Parkside Road came to an end. They remained in 16th place. Shildon returned to winning league ways, after a three league game winless run, as they collected a fifth win on their league travels. The three points took them up to 3rd place. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-2 draw, and we got the four goals just a little differently distributed than we envisaged. Ah well. Next @MarskeUnitedFC v @penrith_afc 📊RESULT// Marske United 0-2 Penrith Mike Algie was the first keeper pressed into action, as he palmed a Kian Makar strike over. Makar got the better of the home stopper on nine minutes as he fired home the opener - his first goal of the season making it 1-0 to the visitors. The hosts were awarded a penalty just before the half hour as Leo Robinson was hauled down by Tai Bell, the Saturday scorer shown the red card for denial of a goal scoring opportunity. Robinson took the spotkick but saw Lewis Boyd saved well. Boyd thwarted Robinson again shortly after as the visiting stopper repelled a well struck effort from distance. The Seasiders pushed after the break but it was the visitors who went closest to adding to the scoreline as Jordan Palmer hit the post just after the hour following a quick counter. Palmer did claim ten man Penrith’s second on 68 minutes as he lifted home over Algie to make it 2-0 with his seventh league goal of the season. Robinson and then Kenzie Harker went close as the hosts continued to push but it finished 2-0 to the visitors as they claimed just a third league clean sheet. Marske have now lost four league defeats in a row after a third home league loss of the season. They have failed to score in their last three league outings - it's now 353 minutes, approaching six hours, of goalless Seasiders football. They dropped a place to 18th. Penrith climbed a place to 20th as they collected their third away league win to end a five game losing run in league action. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 1-0 home win but the resilient Bonny Blues’ flipped the script on us. Next @NBFC_Official v @redcartownfc 📊RESULT// Newcastle Benfield 1-3 Redcar Town The visitors went ahead on nine minutes, McCorie Carmichael with the assist for last season’s 23 goal man Kyran Clark to slot home his first of this campaign. Clark continued to stretch the home defence, a shot dragged wide from ten yards was followed by a header that found the hands of Adam Martin in the Lions’ goal. Clark did claim his second on 39 minutes, a predatory finish after the ball bounced kindly, 2-0. Clark completed his hat trick just four minutes into the second half, finding the bottom corner with a calm effort after running clear. Will Cowey then had to react quickly to save a Michael Colquhoun strike as the hosts looked for a response. Martin then denied Kayden Robinson-Coley on two occasions before Phil Riley pulled a goal back for the hosts on 80 minutes with a fine header from an Archie Small centre. But that was as good as it got for the hosts. Benfield are now without a win in their last five league games after a fifth league loss of the season at Sam Smith’s. The defeat saw them fall to the foot of the table. Redcar moved up two places to 11th as Clark’s treble helped them to a fourth away league victory. They are now unbeaten in four in league action to equal their best run of the season. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-1 away win and we were a pesky goal away from a perfect prediction - but we can’t be too mad at Clark for scuppering us. Or can we? Next @nbsfc2018 v @HordenCWFC 📊RESULT// Newcastle Blue Star 1-2 Horden CW Jakub Zych tested the gloves of visiting stopper Robert Dean early doors but the opening half an hour was a pretty tame affair. The game sparked into life after a handbag swinging melee saw five players cautioned. Zych again tested Dean, twice, before the Blue Star man headed wide from a corner. Lewis Orrell whipped a free kick just past the Horden upright before Oliver Holland produced a superb save to deny Ben Henderson. Goalless at the break. The Marras made the breakthrough on 54 minutes as Oliver Dixon rifled a wonderful strike into the top corner - his first goal of the season. Henderson then added Horden's second on the hour as he slotted through the home keepers legs to make it 2-0. League goal No.4 for Hendo. The hosts were handed a late consolation as Lewis Cowan scored an own goal - the second season running the Marras have scored an own goal at Scotswood after Kyle Davis’ bullet header last time. Blue Star dropped a place to 15th after a sixth home league defeat of the season means they have now won just once in their last eight league outings. Horden have won three league games on the bounce for the first time this season after they collected a third awayday league victory. The three points saw them move up two places to 7th. 🔮PREDICTION// 💥💥BANG ON💥💥 ABSO-BLOODY-LUTELY PREFECT!!!! GERRIN YA BEAUTY!!!! We called it right on the nose, not many celebrate own goals…. but Lewis Cowan? Thank you brother!!! Next @NorthallertonFC v @WhickhamFC 📊RESULT// Northallerton Town 4-1 Whickham Home stopper Ben Fairless rebuffed a couple of early Whickham efforts as he protected his clean sheet quest - they are the only NL1 side without one. Lewis Martin was then denied by the lino’s flag at the other end in a lively start to the game as Mackenzie Crooks crashed an effort off the Whickham crossbar. The visitors took the lead just after the half an hour as Aaron Zamor rounded off a swift counter to make it 1-0. Foreigner Lang Jack Martin forced visiting stopper Fin Robertson into a smart save shortly after but he couldn't keep out the Ally striker’s next effort, Martin levelling things on 44 minutes as he scored for the third game running. Ally took the lead just three minutes into the second half, Martin with his second goal of the evening. Dale Hopson then made it 3-1 on 52 minutes as the hosts took control. It was four on 63 minutes as Martin completed his hat trick as he swept home from the penalty spot after Reece Littlefair was fouled - that was his eighth league goal of the season, six for Ally with the other two coming in the colours of tonight’s opposition. Northallerton moved up to 17th place as they ended a three league game losing run with a third home league victory of the season. Whickham have now lost three league games on the bounce following a fifth awayday league defeat of the season. They dropped a place to 19th. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 3-2 home win. We saw goals and they came, just not in the correct numbers to get us a BANG ON. However a decent shout from us nonetheless. Next @WhitleyBayFC v @YarmEaglescliff 📊RESULT// Whitley Bay 2-4 Yarm & Eaglescliffe Bay’s Mackenzie Sharpe headed an early Joe Power corner wide but it would be the visitors that opened the scoring on 15 minutes as Tom Atkinson pounced on a mistake at the back to fire home his 11th league goal of the season. Yarm doubled their lead just after the half hour as Dan Jones headed home from a corner. He nearly produced a carbon copy a few minutes later as the visitors’ set pieces caused the hosts all kinds of problems. Callum Roberts then turned a Tom Bryant drive behind but the hosts did pull a goal back three minutes before the break, Nathan Nkunku with great control before lashing home from 18 yards. The visitors restored their two goal cushion on 47 minutes as Jones headed home his second from another corner. Bay responded again, Sharpe tucked away from Nkunku’s knock down to make it 3-2. Sharpe’s seventh league goal of the campaign as he scored for the second game running. Josh Larkin stretched home stopper Mauro Asikaogu with a shot from range but the Bay No1 saved well. Yarm were back two goals ahead on 68 minutes and with a real sense of deja vu as Jones completed a hat trick of headers from corners to make it 4-2. Mikey Roberts nearly added a late fifth for the visitors but he blazed over when through but the points headed back down the A19. Bay saw their eight game unbeaten league run come to an end as they fell to a fourth league defeat at Hillheads this season. They stayed in 10th place despite the loss. Yarm are now unbeaten in five in league action after they claimed a fifth away league victory of the campaign. The three points took them up a place to 5th. 🔮PREDICTION// We predicted a 2-2 draw, but the perfect coiffured hair of Jonsey scuppered our Bang On chances. We are still Team Hairband though.
