From Banana Peels to Vegan Leather: Delhi University Students Turn Food Waste into Innovation!
Students from Ramjas College, University of Delhi, have developed Sehar, a leather-like material made from discarded banana peels after nearly a year of experimentation with fruit waste, including orange, mango, pineapple and coconut peels.
Led by Enactus Ramjas, the student initiative earned PETA India’s Youth Changemakers for Animals Award for promoting animal welfare, food waste management and sustainable materials, highlighting the potential of student-led innovation to create alternatives to animal-derived leather.

Students at @OfficialRamjas, @UnivofDelhi, have developed Sehar, an innovative leather made from discarded banana peels that helps spare animals from suffering while giving food waste a second life.
The leather industry comes at a significant cost to animals, people, and the environment. Animals killed for leather often endure gruelling transport conditions and slaughter, while leather production pollutes waterways, airways, landways and exposes workers and nearby communities to hazardous chemicals.
This award-winning innovation demonstrates how today's young leaders are combining compassion, sustainability, and entrepreneurship to create solutions that benefit everyone and shape a kinder future.

Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan today addressed a National Seminar on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, organised by the Centre for Independence and Partition Studies, University of Delhi, in association with the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR).
The Vice-President paid his deep respects to the survivors of Partition who were present at the seminar and said that the nation had gathered to reflect on “one of the most tragic and dehumanising chapters” in its history.
As Bharat prepares to celebrate Independence Day, he said, the nation must pause to remember the sacrifices and suffering of those who lived through Partition.

A total of 24,814 new allocations in Round II. Candidates must check their dashboard and ACCEPT their allocation by 11:59 PM on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
30,682 candidates received an upgrade in Round II, and 15,265 candidates had applied to freeze their seat.
