60 years later, we remain inspired by the Selma marchers who risked their lives for the right to vote. Take a look at how we plan to honor those on whose shoulders we stand and inspire the next generation of leaders to pick up the baton of change at the Obama Presidential Center:

On Bloody Sunday, marchers in Selma were beaten and tear-gassed—just for demanding the right to vote. Their sacrifice led to the Voting Rights Act, but today, those rights are under attack again. We must honor their fight by continuing it. #GoodTrouble 🎥: @civilrightsorg

With #AmeliaBoyntonRobinson in #Selma on the 50th anniversary of #BloodySunday. I will always treasure this moment with such a powerful, gracious woman who, as one of the marchers from Selma to Montgomery, was beaten unconscious by police 60 years ago today. Lady Amelia is now an ancestor. Her memory is a blessing. Her life is a light. #VotingRights #WomensHistoryMonth #JohnLewisVRAA

60 years ago today, civil rights activists led by John Lewis and Hosea Williams were beaten & bloodied as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The work of these activists is part of an unfinished symphony. Let us honor them by continuing their fight for a more equal America.

🧵 ‘Remembering Bloody Sunday…Restoring and Strengthening the Voting Rights Act’ Today marks the 60th anniversary of #BloodySunday, labeled as such because of the state-sanctioned violence inflicted upon marchers determined to end racist-laden voter suppression. Bloody Sunday and the later march on Montgomery brought national attention to the injustice of voter suppression and to the inhumanity that transpired that day. Bold, strategic nonviolent direct action, including the courageous commitment to dramatizing the issue and highlighting the injustice even in the face of violence, shifted public opinion and contributed to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Today, some of the protections against racial discrimination in voting and representation found within the VRA of 1965 have been rolled back and gutted by the Supreme Court, and others are currently threatened. Let’s remember. Let’s honor. Let’s act. We implore you to call your Congress members. Tell them to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Amplify the #JohnLewisVRAA. Advocate for its passing, #AmeliaBoyntonRobinson #WomensHistoryMonth #BloodySunday #Selma #Montgomery #JohnLewis #HoseaWilliams #BobMants #AlbertTurner #Nonviolence #NonviolentDirectAction #VotingRightsAct #RestoreTheVRA #SNCC #SCLC #DallasCountyVotersLeague #Vote

60 years ago, a group of brave civil rights organizers marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama in the pursuit of justice and equality. Today we’re reminded of their courageous sacrifices, and tasked with the responsibility of doing what we can to carry forward their work.

NEWS: Elon Musk and his DOGE bros have ordered GSA to sell off the site of the historic Freedom Riders Museum in Montgomery. This is outrageous and we will not let it stand! I am demanding an immediate reversal. Our civil rights history is not for sale! alreporter.com/2025/03/06/hi…
