WE DID IT π’ βπͺ§
Thankful for the solidarity shown to the hundreds of reporters who participated in this historic work stoppage.

Welcome to the union family @SS_Guild!!! π₯³π
Don't waste any time, @tribpub @SunSentinel. It's time to voluntarily recognize and get to the bargaining table.
Journalists at the @SunSentinel are forming a union to protect our workers and the South Florida communityβs access to quality local journalism. #SunSentinelSolidarity
The rumors are true: Workers at the @orlandosentinel and across the @tribpub chain π FINALLY HAVE A UNION CONTRACT π
Here's some of what we won: 1/π§΅
Huge news! After 5 long years of negotiations between Alden Global Capital & a joint bargaining committee, journalists at 8 Tribune publications voted overwhelmingly to ratify a historic first contract!β

To our sister guilds. From the joint bargaining table to the picket line, our collective power is what guided us to this moment.
Shout out to: @tidewaterguild @guildsuburban @mcallguild @tbcontentguild @tribdpsguild @courantguild @newsguild (4/5)
Of course, our uphill battle against the Darth Vader of the newspaper industry wouldn't have been possible without our allies in Orlando and beyond. Your support meant more than you know.
Way too many to name, but y'all know who you are. (END)

Why we left Alden
The Orlando Sentinel unionized in 2020 with roughly 59 reporters. Today we have 32. Here is why they left:
You canβt enjoy your time off because you have a second job or side gig to cover the rest of your bills. Whether it realizes it or not, Tribune is pushing out employees who donβt benefit from generational wealth β often journalists of color β and its newsrooms are poorer for it.
