I made real chess playable inside League of Legends. Using my server scripting system in patchze.ro/ How it works: The board isn’t an overlay. It’s painted into Summoner’s Rift’s own ground textures, rebuilt from your stock map files on first launch (about 30 s). The client just renders a map that happens to have a chessboard in its blue base. The pieces are minions wearing champion models. The server plays each one’s animations and particles by name: Hecarim’s knight leaps on his E charge, Galio’s rook slides on Justice Punch, Lux captures with Final Spark, Kayle with her ult. Input is League’s normal right-click. The pieces can’t be targeted, so every click reaches the server as a plain move order and gets mapped to a square. Your champion waits at the fountain while a camera packet decoded from the client makes the view follow an invisible unit over the board. The whole implementation are about 500 lines of Lua: castling, en passant, promotion, threefold repetition, the 50-move rule, dead positions. Move generation matches the published perft counts, and an alpha-beta bot plays the other side. Watch until the end! 👀
