She hid in a crawlspace above a storeroom for SEVEN YEARS to stay near her children.
She could not stand up once in seven years. Harriet Jacobs.
She had run from a man in Edenton, North Carolina who had been pursuing her since she was fifteen.
Rather than leave the state and lose her son and daughter, she went into her grandmother's roof space and stayed.
She bored a small hole in the wall with a gimlet so she could see the street.
Through that hole she watched her own children grow up. They did not know she was there.
Her limbs stopped working properly. She got through the winters by being covered. She wrote letters and had them posted from New York so her pursuer would search in the wrong state.
Seven years. Then she escaped north, got her children out, and wrote the book.
When "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl" was published in 1861, critics decided a formerly enslaved woman could not have written it and attributed it to a white editor. That stood for over a century until a historian proved the authorship in the 1980s.
She hid for seven years to keep her children in sight, then told the truth, and they said she made it up.

The man who invented the operation that saves babies born with blue-baby syndrome had no medical degree, no college degree, and was listed on the payroll as a JANITOR.
He guided the first operation from a stool behind the surgeon's shoulder, telling him where to cut.
Vivien Thomas. He had been saving to study medicine when the 1929 crash wiped out his savings and the bank holding them.
He took a job as a lab assistant at Vanderbilt for a janitor's wage, because that was the classification available.
Within a couple of years he was running experimental surgery — developing techniques, performing operations on his own, training surgeons.
He moved to Johns Hopkins with Alfred Blalock in 1941, where he was still paid as a janitor and had to enter through a back door.
He was the only Black man in that building not carrying a mop.
He worked out the surgical fix for tetralogy of Fallot — the condition killing infants who turned blue and died — and built the instruments for it.
The first operation on a child was in 1944. Blalock, who had never done the procedure, asked Thomas to stand behind him and talk him through it.
The surgeons on the paper became world famous. Thomas was not credited.
Hopkins hung his portrait in 1971 and gave him an honorary doctorate in 1976. Generations of surgeons he personally trained insisted on it.
He was paid as a cleaner while inventing heart surgery.

They told you to get over the past.
150 documented crimes say otherwise.
The massacres they erased from the record. The land taken with paperwork instead of rope. The experiments run on people who were never told. The wages, the children, the wealth — all of it sourced, dated, and named.
Not opinion. Record.

Did you know? There are millions of American house deeds that still contain a clause saying the property may never be sold to, or occupied by, a person of African descent.
Not historically. Currently. In the filed document, today.
They are called racial covenants, and between roughly 1910 and 1950 they were written into the paperwork of entire subdivisions as standard practice — often in the same paragraph as rules about fences and livestock.
Neighbourhoods across Minneapolis, Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago and hundreds of other cities were built with them. The FHA recommended them.
The Supreme Court ruled in 1948 that courts could not ENFORCE them — but it did not erase them. The words stayed in the deeds, and stayed enforceable in practice by mortgage lenders and realtors for years afterward.
Volunteers at a project in Minnesota have mapped tens of thousands of them, parcel by parcel, using the original county records.
Several states now let a homeowner file to have the language formally struck.
So here is your assignment, and it is free: look up your own property records online tonight, or your parents', or the house you grew up in.
A surprising number of people find the sentence. In their own house. In writing.

Stunning: At the edge of the dark Coalsack Nebula lies a brief and beautiful stage in a star’s final evolution. This protoplanetary nebula will last only a few thousand years before its surrounding shell begins to glow.

✨ Millions of years ago, a giant star in a distant galaxy ended its life in a dramatic supernova explosion. Light from this cosmic event traveled through space for tens of millions of years before finally reaching Earth this May, where it was identified as supernova 2026kid.
The accompanying video, captured over three nights, shows the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 5907 as the supernova gradually appears and brightens.

I've spent 20+ years helping executives and founders end chronic stress at the root.
The pattern never changes.
Their labs come back clean.
Their doctor says they're fine.
But their body never left high alert.
Normal labs. A body still screaming.

1) I heard about the passing of @1057thePoint ‘s @jeffburton1057 earlier this afternoon and I must say it hit me hard. As a 90s teen, I listened to @jeffburton1057 and Trish every weekday morning. That was WAY back in the Point’s early days. @jeffburton1057 WAS the Point to me.
4) @KingScottRules @AnthonyUntamed @StLouisPawPaw @LuxStLou and everyone else in his @1057thePoint family. It is truly a sad day in Saint Louis radio and for all of those who knew him and all of those whose lives he touched… #willbemissed #1057thepoint #rizzshow #sosad #FYP
5)The STL lost one of the good ones - a “good egg” if you will - someone who made our city shine a little brighter, our mornings more bearable, and was just an all around awesome person. So here’s to you @jeffburton1057 . thanks for the memories ❤️#GoneTooSoon #jeffburton
