So proud today. The culmination of 9 years of work, European and UK collaborations, most importantly developing a tool we can use in clinical practice to identify patients who need support after esophagectomy. @ISDE_net @Augishealth @HeartburnCancer @OPA_UK @NDSurgicalSci
📢 Excellent work just published and available to read through Open Access
😷 LAsting Symptoms after Oesophageal Resectional Surgery (LASORS): multicentre validation cohort study
🎯 The aim of this study was to validate the six-symptom LASORS tool for identifying patients after curative oesophageal cancer treatment with poor health-related quality of life and to assess its clinical utility.

AL are rarely purely technical. It’s complex interplay between multiple risk factors (patient, oncology, timing, nutrition, learning curve), tissue perfusion; tension and the microbiome. We need to move away from blaming surgeons for this problem and change the narrative

📢The @ROMIOStudy results have just been published in @BJSurgery
They found no evidence of a difference between recovery time and complications when comparing standard and keyhole surgical incisions for the treatment of oesophageal #cancer.

Neck dissection for three stage or transhiatal is difficult. Great to practise this on the cadaver. This is one of the best articles to learn this approach safely.
