🔥 Event Recap | The Next Generation of Payments in APAC
During #TOKEN2049 Singapore week, #SunrateOfficial, #Googlecloud and #ODIG brought builders, payment leaders, financial institutions and ecosystem partners together for an afternoon where digital assets, payment infrastructure and agentic finance meet.
As digital assets move into real-world finance, the rails that connect tokenised value with everyday payments are being rebuilt.
Thank you to everyone who joined us 👇
Agentic finance needs rails that are fast, compliant and programmable. That gap is what we dug into with Sunrate and Googlecloud at The Next-Generation Payment Infrastructure in Asia-Pacific.
Thanks to every builder, payment leader and institution who joined us 👇
🔥 Event Agenda | The Next Generation of Payments in APAC
— Exploring the convergence of digital assets, payment infrastructure and agentic finance
During TOKEN2049 Singapore week, ODIG @ODIGco × Sunrate @SunrateOfficial × Google Cloud @googlecloud bring together payment leaders, institutions and builders to map what comes next in APAC.
What we're digging into:
→ Card Issuance for the Tokenised Economy
→ Stablecoin-powered payments and cross-border settlement
→ Agentic finance and AI-driven financial workflows
→ Where value accrues: protocol, wallet, or merchant layer
Payment innovators, financial institutions, technology providers,digital-asset businesses, VCs, FIs and ecosystem partners, all in one room.

The Hangzhou International Data Annotation Alliance has officially launched with 115 founding members. ODIG is among the first cohort.
The alliance was initiated by Hangzhou's municipal government as part of the city's push to strengthen its AI industry's global competitiveness. China has made AI development a national strategic priority, and Hangzhou is one of the country's leading hubs ,home to world-class companies including @alibaba_cloud , @UnitreeRobotics , and @deepseek_ai
As LLM competition shifts from the algorithm layer down to the data layer, the mechanisms for data production, ownership verification, pricing, and circulation are being restructured ,redefining how value is distributed around data as a factor of production.
ODIG will leverage the alliance ecosystem to shorten the path from prototype to commercial deployment for portfolio companies and partners on the data resource side, while continuing to explore where data asset marketization meets Web3 digital infrastructure.
$34B in tokenized assets sit on chain. BUIDL alone holds $2.74B at 0.66% DeFi utilization. Private credit, not treasuries, drives the $4B actually deployed in DeFi.

Compliance-enforced DEXs like Provable Shield Swap mark a bifurcation point: permissionless liquidity pools vs auditable execution layers. Institutions now face a clear on-chain trading architecture choice.
Does compliance-layer DEX adoption accelerate or constrain institutional DeFi flows? #DeFiInfrastructure #CryptoCompliance
Auditable AI agent payments just became production infrastructure. AWS Bedrock AgentCore adds cryptographic receipts and immutable logs - the machine economy's PCI DSS moment arrived overnight.
What timing pressures does verifiable payment infrastructure create for enterprise AI agent adoption? #AIAgentPayments #MachineEconomy
T+1 JGB repo isn't a yield constraint. It's a plumbing constraint.
MUFG is rebuilding JGB repo settlement using blockchain and tokenized MMFs. Japan's largest bank is treating this as an engineering problem.
Is European fixed income next?

Traditional banking infrastructure is now the architecture of regulated stablecoin issuance in Hong Kong, not a competitor to it.
Standard Chartered led the consortium that launched HK's first regulated stablecoin this week. The regulatory design means the stablecoin's redemption guarantees, capital adequacy, and oversight all run through the issuer's existing banking compliance structure.
For institutional counterparties in Asia, the question is whether bank-backed stablecoins and crypto-native stablecoins serve different settlement use cases permanently, or whether the market consolidates on one architecture.

Institutional repo settlement on blockchain reached $8 trillion monthly volume in July 2026. The scaling question for DLT infrastructure in fixed income is no longer theoretical.

AP2, ACP, x402, and Circle's agent discovery layer are all in production this week. They don't interoperate.
Visa's programmable agent spending controls, Mastercard's delegation framework, and Circle's USDC-native discovery layer each route AI agent commerce through different authentication and settlement stacks.
Enterprise teams committing to one architecture now are absorbing switching costs before the market knows which protocol wins.
Should enterprise AI teams standardize on a payment stack before the protocol competition resolves, or does early commitment create more risk than advantage at this stage?

Wellington Management's mWIN puts actively managed institutional credit, spanning CLOs, CMBS, RMBS, and investment-grade corporates, on Ethereum as DeFi collateral from day one.
Most tokenized fixed income on chain gives rate exposure, not credit management. mWIN is structurally different. Wellington actively rotates sector exposures as macro conditions shift, and the strategy operates as collateral in Morpho and Aave from launch.
Northern Trust provides independent daily pricing, a Luxembourg securitisation vehicle handles bankruptcy remoteness, and each strategy maps to a single on-chain mToken.
Active credit management as DeFi collateral is a different asset quality than wrapped Treasuries. Whether DeFi protocols are pricing that quality difference is the question the market hasn't answered yet.

Sterling stablecoin issuers operating in the UK will have a central bank backstop under stress. No G7 central bank has made that commitment before.
The Bank of England's policy statement released this week sets joint BoE and FCA oversight of systemic issuers, a 70/30 backing split between UK government debt and central bank deposits, and a GBP 40B per-issuer issuance cap replacing the previously proposed holding limits.
The backstop facility provides short-term collateralised liquidity to fundamentally solvent issuers. That directly addresses the run-risk scenario that has kept institutional capital out of sterling stablecoin infrastructure.
Feedback closes September 22. Code of Practice finalised by end of 2026.
Any institution sizing a UK stablecoin operation now has a concrete capital and reserve framework to plan around.

Crypto exchange AML reporting in South Korea just expanded from transactions above 1 million won to every single transfer between registered exchanges.
Cabinet approved the enforcement decree today. New reporting provisions take effect August 20. The full travel rule expansion follows six months after promulgation, giving Korean digital asset operators a hard compliance runway.

Settlement abstraction is now the competitive layer in agentic commerce. The routing intelligence that decides which protocol executes and which stablecoin settles is where margin accumulates, not in the protocol itself.
OSL Group launched AgentPay this week routing AI agent payments across USDT, USDC, and their own USDGO without forcing developers to pick between x402, AP2, or MPP. The layer above the payment rails now has institutional infrastructure behind it. OSL's USDGO crossed $1 billion in circulating supply in July, meaning the company's routing decisions aren't exactly asset-neutral.
Which side of this split ends up with the defensible margin as agent transaction volume scales? The protocol layer, or whoever builds the settlement infrastructure above it.
