The final version of our electrical synapse proteome paper is out in @eLife: Uncovering the electrical synapse proteome in retinal neurons via in vivo proximity labeling doi.org/10.7554/eLife.105935…
This protocol paper is a nice companion to Stephan's whorl paper last fall in JBC. It's hard not to admire the beauty that comes from an intracellular trafficking defect.

Thank you Dr Stephan Tetenborg, great talk!
"Trafficking of Connexin36 (Cx36) in the early secretory pathway"
Congratulations @EShihabeddin from @NeuroMDAUTH on his really cool new paper on methods to knock down genes in #zebrafish retina using strategies accessible to all. Thanks @NatEyeInstitute for F31 support.

Stephan Tetenborg brings us a beautiful paper about how miss-trafficked #connexin 36 docks in the ER. Lovely CLEM and SBF by Viktoria Liss and Leo Breitsprecher and collab with @RZoidl. Check it out! sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
See Chris Lee’s new paper examining calcium microdomains at #connexin 36 electrical synapses in the #retina. eneuro.org/content/10/8/ENEU…
Calcium regulates bidirectional plasticity of electrical synapses. Chris shows us that most electrical synapses experience transient calcium increases when puffed with glutamate, showing widespread potential for plasticity.
Experience New Orleans at #ARVO2023. You will know who has by the powdered sugar on their pants.
Congratulations @LisaOstrin for winning the Michael Oberdorfer Award in Low Vision Research. #ARVO2023
When the OBrien lab leadership goes on vacation and doesn’t answer email, we REALLY go on vacation. I FOUND this tooth. What a thrill!
Big, beautiful Allosaurus tooth found by a member of our Dino Dig 2022 crew. An amazing find 🦖🎉

Woohoo! Congratulations @OBrien_lab grad student @EShihabeddin for a great score on your F31 application:
Impact score: 20
Percentile: 5.0
Great job!
Are you interested in #electricalsynapse? We are looking for a postdoc to work on #connexin niche specialization in #retina and brain using #zebrafish genetics in our new lab @UHouston. Vision scientist? Meet me at ARVO next week. Please RT.
Modular @NIH grant budgeting simplifies the budget process and sets a funding level target. When established, a modular R01 could pay for a research project. That is no longer the case; the cost of doing research has doubled. #RaiseTheModularLimit. 1/3
This graph shows 1) NIH year 0 postdoc salary, 2) cost of 1 year 0 and 1 year 3 postdoc with benefits at UT Houston rates, and 3) full team including a technician and some PI salary, both estimated at 2/3 the cost of an average postdoc. #RaiseTheModularLimit. 2/3
In 1999, the research team cost 49% of a modular R01; in 2013, 75%. In 2021, the same team cost 98%; there is no room for other costs. It is impossible to fund this smallest basic team with a modular R01. #RaiseTheModularLimit. 3/3
