FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT Day 5: Another #fairtrade first - the first fairtrade certified macademia nuts. A brilliant achievement for @Nutcellars and available from my local @mycoopfood as part of the fantastic Malawi Partnership. #bethechange #FairtradeFortnight
In July, we attended the HIMACUL board meeting with their dedicated smallholder farmers. It was a privilege to hear directly from the farmers about what’s been working well for them and their cooperatives under HIMACUL, as well as opportunities for improvement and collaboration.
As we celebrate 30 years of @CentralCoop support for 30 years of @Fairtrade, we would like to applaud HIMACUL for their efforts over the past 20 years to bring these first Fairtrade macadamia products to stores near you.
Together, we’re not just growing nuts - we’re growing opportunities, ensuring that the benefits of Fairtrade reach every farmer in our network. Here’s to continued collaboration, sustainability, and success for all!

As part of their Malawi Partnership pioneered by Central Co-op, Nutcellars are working closely with True Origin and are now supplying Nutcellars Malawi Macadamia into Scotmid Coops mainly in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Their great-great-grandmother, Alice Cameron, arrived from Scotland in Blantyre Malawi in 1905. With support from Equal Exchange, @ScotGovID helped the farmers build a warehouse and become members of Highland Macadamia Co-operative Union Limited (HIMACUL).
