Imagine you never have to rewrite hashes by hand anymore. And it works on remote builders too.

We started working on a better Gradle <-> Nix packaging experience. DM me if your company is interested in participating in the process, so we can make sure their use cases are being covered.

treefmt v0.6.0 is out. This is a small release that includes a lot of fixes and QoL improvements. I hope you'll like it! treefmt is especially great for monorepos as it can speed up code formatting by 10-100x. buff.ly/45bFbX9

Something clicked last summer — with a lot of help from the team at @Numtide — and now I'm using Nix pretty much everywhere… in development. Next up: everywhere in production!

Replying to @kuutamocloud
@kuutamocloud is proud to have helped incubate this and uses it in production for node deployments. Powerful open source hybrid cloud tooling. Check it out!

Last week I was amazed what nixos-anywhere can do with a single command: partition disks, initialize RAID schemes, format everything, install a complete @nixos_org configuration, and reboot the system within minutes. Example-Walkthrough in my blog: galowicz.de/2023/04/05/singl…

Both me and @Numtide are moving back to my origin country: Switzerland! Farewell to the UK; I have a lot of great memories and met many interesting people there. The energy in London is incredible.

There are two low-hanging fruits as part of the Nix error messages project that I'd like to fund and fix. Ben has so far added source annotations and --debugger flag to Nix, which has improved the developer experience drastically.

I'm excited to have @Lassulus joining the @Numtide team today. He is the king of NixOS self-hosting and already showed us that Buildbot can be used as a Nix CI. Recently he's been working on declarative disk partitioning with Nix: github.com/nix-community/dis…

The @Numtide Nix team is growing: @flokli, @Mic_92, @tazjin. And soon @ninjatrappeur and Lassulus. I'm super excited to see what things we'll build next.

We're starting to have a bunch of cool knowledge like that at @numtide. In the past 12 months, our little team deployed NixOS to AWS, Equinix Metal, OVH, Hetzner, Hetzner Cloud. By uploading system images, PXE-booting or swapping existing systems. NixOS is super versatile.
It takes ~8 minutes to build locally, upload and register a NixOS AMI with nix-build + terraform. And if the configuration hasn't changed, it will know it's a no-op and skip the whole build. If you used Packer before, you know this is good :)
