Coin-related art. I've recently bought a poster print of the famous Vilhelm Hammershøi painting "Møntsamleren" (The coin collector). Slightly more affordable than the actual painting, which is worth millions and I believe is in the National Art Museum in Oslo, Norway.

If a Russian wanted to grow a beard during the reign of Peter the Great, they had to pay a tax, then carry a token stating “the beard is a superfluous burden” on the side.

Did you know that our collection includes a set of forger's moulds? The clay moulds were used to counterfeit imperial coins in late antiquity, and were owned by the numismatist Marcel Jungfleisch before their acquisition in 2009. Learn more at numismatics.org.au/pdfjourna…

One of the most celebrated of Royal Mint engravers is William Wyon. His design of Una and the lion for the five-pound piece of 1839 is exceptional and represents a desire to elevate #numismatic #art and, more generally, to encourage artistic awareness on the part of the public.
