#EXCLUSIVE A hug to say “thank you”—then a missing necklace…
@DHSgov says a Romanian couple it calls an illegal immigrant “Bonnie and Clyde” is now in @ICEgov custody after an alleged jewelry theft spree spanning four states.
Police say Rudi Lacatusu and Mirabela Lacatusu would pull over to ask someone for directions. Mirabela would then allegedly hug the person to thank them—unclasping their necklace before the couple drove away.
According to information provided by DHS, police linked the pair to at least 14 incidents across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Maryland. The necklaces were valued at $2,000–$3,000 each.
Nassau County police arrested both on October 5th charging each with three counts of grand larceny, before turning them over to ICE.
@SecMullinDHS saying, “Thanks to local partners in New York, these illegal aliens are in ICE custody and will be removed from our country… If it were up to sanctuary politicians like Governor Kathy Hochul, these criminals would be back on the streets to rob more Americans.”
DHS says both entered the U.S. illegally at an unknown date and location.

It’s been quite a week in the courts. I caught up with defense attorney Mark Reichel about the latest in the Cornell Seven case, Christa Pike’s recovery after surviving a lethal injection, and the back-and-forth in the Bryan Kohberger case.
Three cases we’ve been following.

NEW: @ICEgovERO Executive Associate Director Marcos Charles says Oscar Belgal was the target of an HSI investigation and that’s why prompted ICE officers to stop him in the Bronx yesterday afternoon.
He has a prior conviction on grand larceny and a series of other arrests for assault, robbery, drug and weapon possession.
Investigators believe he is associated with a gang thought to be responsible for the death of a @CBP officer, and they believe Bergal has firsthand knowledge of the incident.
Charles says Belgal was struck with a bullet or fragment in his neck while trying to evade arrest adding that ICE officers targeted Bergal and attempted to stop him by boxing in his vehicle, but he accelerated and hit two different ice vehicles, ice officers then fired their weapons.
@SecMullinDHS says there were body cameras and they were on.
They say they previously tried to detain him in September, but they did not pursue him when he fled.
ICE did have a detainer on him prior to his release from jail in April, but the state of New York did not honor it, something Secretary Mullin says is all too common saying they have asked for 14,766 detainers to be honored in the state.
@NYCMayor demanded that ICE operations end in New York—Secretary Mullin says they are not going to be pausing enforcement operations. He says they will not stop doing their job… adding that they welcome the collaboration with New York.
The FBI and HSI are investigating.

@TheJusticeDept.
Operation Loaded Dice launched in July, targeting drug and firearms trafficking, bulk cash smuggling and associated violent crime across the greater Las Vegas area.
Over roughly three months, the @HSTaskForce seized:
• 290 firearms, including machine guns
• 1,124 kilograms of narcotics — nearly 2,500 pounds
• More than $1 million in cash and other assets
Authorities say the operation disrupted multiple criminal organizations and launched 13 investigations coordinated with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
“If you threaten the security of Nevadans and our guests, Homeland Security and our law enforcement partners will find you, dismantle your operations and bring you to justice,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah said.

#EXCLUSIVE: The cartel is threatening to kidnap federal agents and officers at the Texas southern border according to an internal alert obtained through DHS sources.
The alert says a known “alien smuggler” is planning to smuggle multiple illegal immigrants from Colombia and Venezuela into the United States— “Initial reporting indicates that the purpose of this operation may include attempts to target and kidnap CBP law enforcement personnel within the Presidio and El Paso areas of operation."
Via @CBP, “CBP maintains proactive intelligence on all foreign actors that are a threat to the homeland. All relevant information is diligently vetted with appropriate partners to determine validity. The specific tactics, procedures, and methods CBP uses to mitigate these threats and ensure the safety of CBP personnel and equities is robust. CBP does not comment on these methods to ensure the continued safety of our interests and the American Homeland.”
