The remnants of former Hurricane Isaias continue to push over the area. Some gusty winds up to 25 mph will be possible through the evening. Otherwise, the only other impacts will be cloudy weather and some occasional very light drizzle. #gawx

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10 will feature a tornado risk along/north of I-10 in northern Florida and southern/southeast Georgia. An isolated EF2+ tornado is possible. The zone we've highlighted includes Valdosta, Moultrie, Albany, Dawson, Tifton, Fitzgerald, Douglas, Perry, Eastman, Waycross, Jesup, Baxley and surrounding areas. The tornado risk will be greatest between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. – yes, that's a wide window, but this may be a long-duration unsettled day. Multiple rounds of downpours/tropical squalls are possible, with at least some tornado potential accompanying each. Isaias will lift a warm front north around daybreak. That will introduce moderate to strong instability, or thunderstorm fuel. The lower atmosphere will be juiced-up and primed to sprout tall thunderstorms that are 30,000 to 40,000 feet tall. Meanwhile, Isaias's wind field will be characterized by moderate to extreme shear, or changing winds with height. Surface southeasterlies will be overlaid with strong southwesterlies and drier air aloft. Any downpours that grow tall enough will feel those changing winds and rotate, potentially producing tornadoes. The humid atmosphere also means lower cloud bases and smaller storms. The lower cloud bases will make it easier for tornadoes to touch down. But the smaller storms means we won't see crazy dark skies or hail. As such, if you get a tornado warning on your phone, take it seriously! Even innocuous-looking showers will be able to produce at least scattered tornadoes.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are ongoing across the southern half of the forecast area, and portions of north Georgia may see re-development over the next few hours. Some storms may become strong to severe -- be cautious if spending time outdoors. #gawx

Epic flooding in metro Atlanta occurred on today's date in 2009. It's hard to believe it as 17 years ago. I clearly recall working throughout that day and thinking the rainfall amounts were surreal, and the flood levels were hard to imagine, but they were happening.

Following periods of heavy rainfall yesterday, redevelopment of showers and thunderstorms along the I-85 corridor will support an increased risk of localized flash flooding through the morning. Be cautious if out and about this morning, especially before sunrise. #gawx

We're in a pattern over the next couple of days where clusters of storms will develop to our north and move our way. They should generally start to weaken in Georgia, but a few may remain strong with damaging wind gusts.
