SWIFT just built a blockchain. 11,000 financial institutions. 17 banks already piloting. Round-the-clock money movement. Built in nine months. No decentralization. Crypto wasn't invited. Also this week: the UK is banning crypto from politics entirely after a $6.7 million donation scandal brought down a sitting MP. Watch the video: youtu.be/Vd6icqnli2E

Don’t read this. Seriously. It contains no seven-step framework. No heroic founder mythology. No polite lies about venture capital, wealth, power, or the people who accumulate all three. It is, unfortunately, a confession. I have spent years working inside venture capital while wondering whether it is possible to participate in the machine without eventually becoming part of the machinery. Some days, I think capital can be directed with conscience. Other days, I think that is exactly the kind of thing a compromised capitalist tells himself. So I started Gonzo Capital. A weekly dispatch about money, power, politics, technology, venture capital, and the increasingly absurd gap between what institutions say and what they actually do. The first essay is live. You have been warned. gonzocapital.net/confessions…

Apple filed a lawsuit against OpenAI on July 11th, alleging trade secret theft. More than 400 former @Apple engineers now work at @OpenAI. Many of them built Apple's chips and on-device AI. Apple is not calling it a talent migration. It is calling it a coordinated campaign. Elon Musk spent the weekend amplifying the lawsuit and going back and forth with Sam Altman publicly. Hear all about that and much more on the latest BOOM ROOM Weekly Roundup: youtu.be/k3GODIAeA0k

We hosted an event last week and had a lively panel discussion about who VC funding is even for. Sasha Asheghi (@speaktosasha) curated a panel one diving into fundraising for early startups, and why VC funding only makes sense for a select handful of founders. OpenAI offered the US government a 5% stake worth $42 billion. GPT 5.6 is still gated to 20 approved organizations. The government controls who gets access to the most powerful AI model in the world. @OpenAI complied. OpenAI complained. That tells you everything about who is actually in charge. Founders often overanalyze what investors say. The better signal is what they do next. A simple shift in perspective can make fundraising much less confusing.

Emerging managers outperform established venture funds on DPI, IRR, and TVPI. Most LPs are still allocating to brand names anyway. 73% of all LP capital in Q1 2026 went to just five venture firms. The data and the behavior are pointing in opposite directions. We wrote the framework for finding the emerging managers worth backing before everyone else does. One of the three people who coined the term AGI has a clear opinion on where the industry is heading. It is not flattering. Your brain runs on 20 watts. The largest AI data centers run on 20 gigawatts. A child learns a giraffe from one photo. LLMs need thousands. Peter Voss has been building toward real AGI for over 20 years. His read on the current race: it is not a race toward AGI. It is a race away from it. Don't miss this exciting conversation on AGI and where artificiall intellligence is headed.
