THE STARGATE STORY CONTINUES…@bigfinish
One of the things I love about Stargate is that the universe never really has to end.
If you’ve ever found yourself wishing there were more adventures with the characters we grew up with, there’s another way to return through the Gate — audio.
Big Finish’s Stargate range takes us back into the worlds of SG-1 and Atlantis, with stories featuring members of the original cast. The range currently includes 17 titles, with the later SG-1 stories featuring @MichaelShanks and @TheClaudiaBlack ,
alongside appearances from other familiar Stargate actors.
And honestly, I love the idea of this.
Because Stargate was always about stories. New worlds. New civilisations. New threats. New discoveries.
The television shows may have finished, but the universe has always had so much more to say.
Audio gives us another opportunity to close our eyes, hear those familiar voices and imagine stepping through the Gate once again.
For fans who aren’t ready to say goodbye to Stargate, this is another way of keeping that universe alive.
And with everything happening around #SaveStargate, it’s also a reminder of just how much storytelling potential is still sitting there.
The Gate is still open @AmazonMGMStudio
Who else has listened to the Big Finish Stargate stories?

Why Stargate needs to come back, and why Michael Shanks should lead it
Stargate should come back. Not because we need another nostalgia exercise, but because the universe it created still has stories left to tell.
And if Stargate returns, I genuinely believe @MichaelShanks should be at the heart of it.
Michael Shanks isn’t simply Daniel Jackson. He has demonstrated across the franchise just how extraordinarily versatile an actor he is. He played Daniel Jackson through his journey from brilliant, socially awkward archaeologist and linguist to one of the most important figures in the entire Stargate universe. He played Daniel across radically different emotional and physical circumstances, including his ascension and return. He also voiced Thor and played other distinct characters including Ma’chello.
Daniel Jackson himself is unique within Stargate. He is the only Stargate character to appear across the original film and all three television series, making Michael’s connection to the franchise unlike almost anyone else’s.
And that’s precisely why I think bringing Michael back isn’t simply about giving fans another familiar face.
He represents the DNA of Stargate.
He understands its history. He understands its humour. He understands its mythology. He understands what made Daniel work and, more importantly, he understands how much the character changed over the years.
We’ve watched Michael play the intellectual, the vulnerable human being, the sarcastic friend, the determined explorer, the ascended being and characters completely different from Daniel. That range is exactly what a new Stargate needs.
A returning Stargate shouldn’t simply recreate SG-1.
It should evolve it.
Imagine a new generation stepping through the Gate while Daniel Jackson is there as the person who understands what lies beyond it better than almost anyone alive.
Not necessarily as the young archaeologist we remember.
But as the leader of the Stargate program. The man who has seen worlds rise and fall, met gods, fought impossible enemies, ascended, returned, and somehow remained human.
That’s a story.
And Michael Shanks has already proved he can carry it. He won a Leo Award for his lead performance in Lifeboat and another for Stargate: Continuum, evidence of the dramatic range he brought to the franchise.
Stargate has always been about possibility.
The possibility that we’re not alone.
The possibility that ancient civilisations left something behind.
The possibility that humanity is capable of becoming something greater.
So let’s open the Gate again.
But this time, let’s have someone who helped define what was on the other side standing there to guide us through.
Bring back Stargate.
Bring back Daniel Jackson.
Let Michael Shanks lead the next chapter.

The response to #SaveStargate has been incredible.
Fans, cast, crew, creators and people connected to the franchise are all making it clear that Stargate still matters.
Seeing support from @BaronDestructo, @MartinGero and so many passionate fans gives me hope that this story isn’t finished yet.
As both a lifelong Stargate fan and a professional actor, I’d be honoured to be part of the journey WHEN Stargate returns to our screens.
Until then, let’s keep making some noise.
The gate is still open. Let’s see what’s out there!!

If you could play any character in the Stargate universe, who would it be?
Hero, villain, Goa’uld, Tok’ra, Ancient… anyone.
For me, it would have to be Anubis.
Not because he’s evil, but because he’s one of the most fascinating villains in science fiction. Calm, intelligent, calculating and incredibly powerful. Every time he appeared, you knew the stakes had just gone up.
I’d love the challenge of bringing a character like that to life.
So… who’s your choice?
👇 Let me know and, more importantly… why?

This isn’t just a plea from a fan.
It’s a business case.
Every year, streaming platforms spend billions trying to create the next franchise—something with longevity, global appeal, merchandising potential and a loyal audience.
You already own one.
Stargate.
For over 30 years, Stargate has proven itself to be one of the most enduring science-fiction franchises ever created.
One feature film.
Three successful television series.
Over 350 episodes.
Novels, comics, games, conventions and a fan community that has never truly disappeared.
Most new franchises have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars simply convincing audiences to care.
Stargate doesn’t have that problem.
People already know the Gate.
More importantly…
They’re still watching it.
Today, SG-1 continues to attract viewers on Prime Video while also finding audiences on Netflix. That should tell you something important.
Even after decades, people are still choosing to invest hundreds of hours in this universe without a single new episode being produced.
That isn’t nostalgia.
That’s sustained engagement.
From a business perspective, that’s exactly what streaming platforms want.
Every hour someone spends watching Stargate is time spent inside a universe you already own.
Imagine what happens when a brand-new series launches.
New viewers discover Stargate.
Existing fans return.
SG-1 viewing increases.
Atlantis viewing increases.
Universe viewing increases.
The original film gets rediscovered.
One new series doesn’t just create a new audience—it drives traffic across an entire catalogue that has already paid for itself.
That’s one of the greatest advantages of owning a legacy franchise.
It continues generating value long after production has ended.
Unlike many science-fiction properties, Stargate also has an almost unlimited storytelling engine.
Every Stargate is another world.
Another civilisation.
Another mystery.
Another story.
The concept doesn’t become smaller with time.
It becomes larger.
There are endless opportunities for spin-offs, films, limited series and entirely new teams without abandoning what made the franchise special in the first place.
Commercially, Stargate extends far beyond television.
Collectibles.
Replica props.
Books.
Comics.
Video games.
Board games.
Clothing.
Convention experiences.
Licensing.
Every successful modern franchise thrives because it becomes an ecosystem, not simply a television series.
Stargate already has the foundation.
It simply needs to be expanded.
Perhaps most importantly…
Stargate offers something many modern science-fiction series have moved away from.
Hope.
It isn’t dystopian.
It isn’t cynical.
It believes humanity can become better.
It tells stories about courage, exploration, friendship, sacrifice and choosing hope over fear.
That message resonates across generations.
Older fans return because they remember what Stargate meant to them.
New viewers discover something refreshingly optimistic in a landscape often dominated by darker science fiction.
From a purely commercial perspective, Stargate represents something incredibly rare.
A globally recognised intellectual property…
With an established mythology…
An existing audience…
Decades of goodwill…
Hundreds of hours of catalogue content…
Unlimited storytelling potential…
And a fanbase that is still campaigning for its return over thirty years later.
The question isn’t whether Stargate has value.
The question is…
Why let one of MGM’s greatest franchises remain dormant when it’s already proving people still want to walk through the Gate?
Some franchises have to be built.
Stargate already was.
The Gate is open.
The audience is waiting.
The opportunity is yours.

Dear @AmazonMGMStudio,
What does Stargate really mean?
To many people, it’s easy to see spaceships, alien worlds and epic battles.
To those of us who’ve lived with this franchise for years, it’s something much bigger.
It’s about humanity.
It’s about ordinary people stepping through a gate into the unknown—not because they’re fearless, but because someone has to.
It’s about courage over fear.
Curiosity over ignorance.
Freedom over tyranny.
Hope over despair.
Every great enemy the franchise has given us challenged those ideals, and every time humanity prevailed, it wasn’t because we were the strongest race—it was because we refused to stop believing in one another.
The Stargate itself is more than technology.
It’s a symbol.
A doorway to endless possibilities. A bridge between worlds, cultures and people. A reminder that there’s always another horizon waiting to be explored.
That’s why this franchise still matters.
It reminds us that humanity’s greatest strength has never been our technology…
It’s our willingness to take that first step into the unknown.
For many of us, Stargate wasn’t just a television series.
It became part of who we are.
Please don’t let that legacy remain dormant.
The Gate is still open. We’re still here.

ANUBIS: ASCENDED
Before the Ori…
Before the Wraith…
There was Anubis.
Neither Goa’uld nor Ascended. A being who stood between mortality and godhood, wielding Ancient knowledge without the restraints of the Ascended. He didn’t seek to rule a single world—he sought to reshape the galaxy itself.
Cold. Patient. Relentless.
Every defeat was just another move in a game measured in centuries.
No villain in Stargate ever felt quite like Anubis. He wasn’t driven by rage or ego alone. He was the inevitable shadow that kept returning, forcing the Tau’ri to evolve or perish.
To many fans, he remains the greatest antagonist the franchise has ever created.
“The Others gave me eternal life… and with it, eternity to conquer.”
#SaveStargate. Bring back the universe that gave us villains like Anubis. His story is far from over.

Despite all the #SDCC announcements, Stargate still broke through. Michael Shanks & David Read's rewatch podcast sparked 9K+ related posts on X, Martin Gero trended again, and Robert Picardo joined #SaveStargate. I'd call that a very successful weekend.
