Police claim the vehicle was traveling approximately 110 mph in a 60-mph zone, without headlights, and weaving through traffic. The driver briefly pulled onto the shoulder before accelerating away. The trooper chased the Audi eastbound, following it off I-20 at Candler Road, back onto the interstate and toward Wesley Chapel Road. At the Wesley Chapel Road exit, the Audi driver allegedly lost control, struck a guardrail and collided with multiple vehicles. The crash involved 10 vehicles. Three infants traveling in one of the struck vehicles were transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Kalayia Tolbert, 7 months old, died from her injuries. The conditions of the other two infants have not been disclosed. The pursued driver, Cameron Gabriel Kemp, 33, of Covington, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he also died.
