The big thing is: Bryan wasn’t actually carrying the finished cure. He was carrying a critical component Umbrella had lost and needed to complete the antidote at Raccoon City General. Bryan was deliberately kept in the dark about what he was transporting. That actually fits Umbrella’s whole setup: why tell a random courier that the package could potentially save people when you can simply tell him it’s a medical delivery and get it moved without raising questions? And by the time Bryan is making the delivery, Raccoon City is already collapsing, so this isn’t some clean “Umbrella chooses a random guy over its elite scientists” situation. The internal operation is already compromised, the outbreak is spreading, and Bryan is basically the disposable outside link between the missing material and the scientists who can actually synthesize the cure. The cruel part is that the courier does successfully get the component where it needs to go… he just becomes infected before the scientists can finish the job and use the cure on him. That feels very #ResidentEvil : the important item gets there, but the human being carrying it is expendable.
