Amazing deposit this October! 123 seed boxes from 25 genebanks. 7 depositing for the very first time. Although our muscles might disagree, it has been an honour putting these invaluable plant genetic resources on the cold shelves of the Seed Vault for long-term safekeeping.
🌱 Yesterday, the Svalbard Global Seed Vault received over 30,000 seed samples from 23 depositors across 21 countries, including 7 international genebanks! 🌍
Six first-time deposits were backed by the Crop Trust's #BOLDProject, funded by Norway.

"Scots pine blister rust occurs in entire Sweden but is most problematic in the north. In Norrbotten, the disease was found in 87 % of the inventoried stands. We fear that the problems will increase with #climatechange" said Henrik Svennerstam, from
@Skogforsk.
We need alternative growing media to peat. Five of seven peat substitutes that we tested produced field-ready Norway #spruce seedlings and all thrived in the test field under #climatechange conditions, said Minna Kivimäenpää from @LukeFinland. @NordGen #Forest #Conference
“For example, the @OptFORESTS questionary showed that we are good at knowledge sharing in the #Nordic countries and I think that this conference is an example of that” said Katri Himanen from @LukeFinland @HimanenK
